Abstract

Duplex telegraphs; systems employing non-contact making relays; restoring or modifying imperfect signals.-In a bridge duplex system, a dynamo electric generator has two equal and similar field windings d, e, each included in one arm of the bridge, so that outgoing transmitted signals do not affect the field of the machine, whilst received currents from the line h traverse the two windings in series and so produce a magnified alteration in the voltage generated by the armature c, which is driven by a motor. The relaying or recording instrument o is connected to the brushes m, n of the armature, condenser p shunted by non-inductive resistance q, resisttance s and inductance r being connected for shaping purposes. A 'battery t and resistance u may be connected across the brushes m, n to compensate for current in the armature due to residual magnetism in the generator.
