Abstract

A laptop/utility table has a base 10 secured under a sofa 23 or similar, by a jacking mechanism 13. The swivel arm 11 has means to provide height adjustment and the tabletop 12 provided with adjustment means in the vertical and horizontal planes. Preferably the jacking mechanism is provided with at least one jacking bar. The swivel arm 11 may rotate 360 degrees and may have telescopic height adjustment. The tabletop may be mounted on the arm by means of adjustable blocks (17, Figure 3). The tabletop may be mounted on a hinge that allows the top to be rotated in the horizontal plane (Figure 4). The tabletop may have an extendable portion or a cup holder on it (Figure 5). Also disclosed is the use of a counterweight instead of the jacking mechanism.

Description

* 2423011 SWIVEL LAPTOP / UTILITY TABLE This invention relates to a

portable swivel laptop I utility table.

There are a number of laptop tables on the market, mainly to be used for presentation purposes. They comprise of a tabletop mounted on four legs or a stand.

This arrangement, while perfectly suitable for presentation purposes is quite unsuitable for actually doing some work on the laptop while sitting on a sofa or similar seating.

The present invention has a swivel laptop table comprising of a base secured under the sofa by means of a jacking mechanism or a counter balance, a single arm that swivels in a bearing which is provided in the base and a tabletop mounted on the arm by adjustable blocks and a hinge allowing movement in horizontal and vertical planes thus enabling the optimum adjustment for a comfortable working position. Additional attachments are provided for, such as a cup holder and table extension.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the table assembly with the base positioned under a sofa and the swivel demonstrated by the position of the table in two positions of the swivel.

Figure 2 shows the jack-up mechanism securing the base under the sofa and the rotation of the tabletop in vertical plane.

Figure 3 shows the height adjustment of the table by the telescopic arm.

Figure 4 shows the table movement in the horizontal plane and two possible attachments, cup holder and tabletop extension.

Figure 5 shows the alternative to a tubular base made from solid material.

Referring to the drawing the table comprises base 10 swivel arm 11 and tabletop 12.

The base is provided with ajacking bar mechanism 13 that allows a secure fixing of the base under the sofa 23 or a similar seat. The arm 11 is freely mounted in the bearing provided in the base 10 allowing 360 swivel as indicated by arrow 14 in order to get optimum working position and make it easy when getting up by swivelling the table out of the way.

The ann is made from two sections that are telescopically adjustable and secured by means of a locking screw I lever 15 in order to adjust the height of the table indicated by the arrow 16.

The tabletop 12 is mounted on the arm 11 by means of adjustable blocks 17 and hinge 18. This arrangement allows rotating movement around the arm 11 in vertical plane indicated by arrow 19 and horizontal plane indicated by arrow 20 for the purpose of achieving a comfortable / ergonomic working position.

The tabletop 11 is provided with mounting points for additional attachments such as a cup holder 21 or table extension 22.

An alternative arrangement to the tubular construction base is to be made in a solid material base 24 in order to create counter balance and dispense with the jacking mechanism.

The base is provided with castors 25 for easy movement.

When not in use the table can be easily disassembled by rotating the table into a vertical position and withdrawing the arm from the base bearing. 2)

Claims

1. A swivel laptop/utility table comprising of a base with ajacking mechanism, swivel ann with means of providing height adjustment and tabletop provided by means of adjustment in vertical and horizontal planes.

2. A swivel laptop table as claimed in claim 1 where means for fixing the base under a sofa is provide by at least one jacking bar

3. A swivel laptop table as claimed in previous claims where the base is made of a solid material to provide a counter balance.

4. A swivel laptop table as claimed in claim 1 and 2 where a bearing is provided in the base for the swivel arm allowing it to rotate 360 .

5. A swivel laptop table as claimed in previous claims where means of height adjustment are provided by telescopic adjustment of the two halves.

6. A swivel laptop table as claimed in previous claims where the tabletop is mounted on the arm by means of adjustable blocks that allow movement in the vertical plane

7. A swivel laptop table as claimed in previous claims where the tabletop is mounted on a hinge that allows the top to be rotated in the horizontal plane.

8. A swivel laptop table as claimed in previous claims where the tabletop is provided by means of mounting additional attachments such as a cup holder or

table extension.

9. A swivel laptop table substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-5 of the accompanying drawing.
