Abstract

A Rainwater Pipe Filter, which is secured into place within a discharge pipe by means of Sleeve Body (Fig A, 12) and Compression Clip 6 and which accepts attachment of the Filter Section 4 along with its own internally fitted perforated Filter Plate 8 and Sealing Ring (Fig B, 10) by either screw thread attachment or push clip fixing. Attached to the Sleeve Body is the Raker Tab 2 which is designed to pull debris with it as the Raker tab 2 , Sleeve Body and Filter Section 4 is pulled from any discharge pipe.

Description

DESCRIPTION:
RAINWATER PIPE FILTER: This invention relates to Rainwater Pipe Filter for use with standard rainwater extrusions (moulded) and garden rainwater collection butts At present, the rainwater collection butt is designed to make use of fallen rainwater that is discharged from the guttering which is affixed to houses, garages amd sheds. The purpose of the collection butt is twofold Firstly, with more and more emphasis being placed upon recycling natural resources the storage of rainwater is desirable for reuse in periods of drought etc. Secondly, the benefits of using rainwater as opposed to chlorinated tap water in the use of refilling garden ponds are well documented.
The main problem with the rainwater collection butt is that, at present, fallen debris, such as leaves, twigs, animal and insect life can be transported from guttering to collection butt via the pipe and then rot in the collected water, causing the water to both smell and become a hazard to health. Cleaning out this accumulated debris is very difficult as the only way to empty the collection butt is by means of a small tap at the bottom which, when blocked can leave the huge accumulation of water with nowhere to go. There are some devices currently available which form a guard within the guttering system and prevent debris falling down the pipe, but, as they are all fitted externally, they are very prone to wind damage and can easily become dislodged. Also, as they are generally located at high levels, expert tradespersons are required to both fit, and maintain them which can be overly expensive.
According to the present invention hereby submitted, these problems can be overcom.e by the installation of the Rainwater Pipe Filter' which can easily be fitted into the discharge pipe located INSIDE the water butt (see illustration C). As the Rainwater Pipe Filter' is located within both pipe and water collection butt it can be easily maintained by simply sliding out and detaching the device from the pipe. As the Rainwater Pipe Filter' has a raker tab as an integral part of its design, when it is slid out from the pipe, the tab pulls the accumulated debris behind it which can then be easily gathered by holding a container beneath the pipe and above the water The filter can then be washed and replaced without input from specialist trades persons. The compression clip attached to the body of the filter itself ensures that the device remains in place within the pipe, but, should it become lodged or stuck within the pipe, a screw fitting can be included into the filter holder so that the filter alone can be detached without actually sliding the body out from the pipe.

Claims (7)

  1. CLAIMS: I A Rainwater Pipe Filter substantially described herein which can
be attached to a rainwater discharge pipe inside a water collection butt by means of a moulded sleeve body section with dimensions to suit insertion into rainwater discharge pipes.
  2. 2 A Rainwater Pipe Filter as described in Claim 1, where a raker tab is attached (fitted) onto the moulded sleeve body section so that when the body is removed from the pipe so does the tab, pulling with it accumulated debris
  3. 3 A Rainwater Pipe Filter as described in Claims I and 2, that has a filter section which, if required, can be detached from the sleeve body section by either screw thread means or unclipping.
  4. 4 A Rainwater Pipe Filter as described in Claims 1, 2 and 3, where the filter section has a filter plate which is perforated so as to allow for rainwater to flow through it but which will not allow debris to pass
  5. 5. A Rainwater Pipe Filter as described in any/all preceding claims, which has a perforated filter plate which is held in place by means of a suitably flexible sealing ring.
  6. 6 A Rainwater Pipe Filter as described in Claim 5, which retains its position by means of a compression clip moulded (attached) to the filter section of the Rainwater Pipe Filter and sized as desired.
  7. 7 A Rainwater Pipe Filter herein substantially described in any/all preceding claims where the individual component parts of filter plate, sealing ring, filter section and sleeve body with raker attached, can be detached and renewed if required and when once again fitted together forms a single unit for the purpose.
