Abstract
A unit for stacking, e.g. in stretcher bond, to build a wall skeleton comprises uprights 2 that are grooved 1 to allow stretcher pieces 3 to slot in to hold the uprights together. A matching sole plate (Fig 5, not shown) may be provided; the units are of wood, but may be of plastics, and the skeleton wall created by the units can be faced with cladding.
Description
24 1 8680 A WALL "BUILDING SKELETON" The invention relates to a unit that
interlocks with itself to form Walls and Partitions for building purposes.
Constructing walls of buildings is generally a job for skilled labour and involves heavy, dirty & cumbersome materials and can also take a considerable time to erect.
The invention provides light weight modular units that can be assembled quickly and easily by relatively unskilled labour.
The invention is a lightweight skeleton unit that consists of structural "I" sections held apart by spacers that are fixed into groves in the "l" sections.
When stacked in a brick bond pattern they interlock with themselves in a quick and easy manor to form wall structures of any shape and size without the use of skilled labour.
The units are generally made in timber however with engineer's approval these could be made from injection moulded plastic or a combination of materials.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows a view of the whole unit FIGURE 2 shows the end elevation FIGURE 3 shows the side elevation of the end supports FIGURE 4 shows the side elevation of the centre support FIGURE 5 shows the detail of the sole plate and wall plate that the unit in Figure 1 fits into to keep the line and level FIGURE 6 shows how the head of one unit interlocks with the bottom of another FIGURE 7 shows how the units should be "block bonded" together for overall strength FIGURE 8 shows a side elevation of how the units stack to give a continuous support column As shown in figure 1 the unit comprises three vertical structural supports, (2 of figure 3, one handed) and (1 of figure 4) all slotted 1, and held apart and upright by the interlocking stretcher pieces 3, Slots 2, allow for the insertion of a connecting strip between supports for additional strengthening in special conditions and to connect to the wall plate and linings around openings.
Figure 5 is a section of base and wall plate that is slotted 4, to allow the units to locate and be held in position horizontally and vertically.
The units are slotted to accommodate Axed spacer pieces 3, which allow the complete and strong interlocking of the units as demonstrated in figure 6.
Figure 8 demonstrates three units fixed together and 6, shows how two end connections sit under one centre section on the next layer thus continuing the structural column effect.
Half size units and intersection units will be made to cater for junctions and end infill's.
These units correctly erected will form internal partitions and the inner skin of wall construction to give a quick and strong structure that can be assembled by unskilled labour. These walls would then be clad in the usual way.
These units are ideal for the DIY enthusiast who can use these to easily build the structure of Sheds, Garages, Storage areas of any shape or size. These structures can then be clad with Shiplap or other external weather boards.
Overall reducing the time and cost of home extensions, improvements and general building works whilst at the same time giving additional flexibility.
Claims (5)
1. A building module consisting of grooved vertical structural supports held apart and upright by interlocking stretcher pieces allowing the modules to interconnect with each other.
2. The features of the module when stacked together allow a strong, stable and unified structure to be achieved.
3. A module as Claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from wood, metal, plastics material or from a combination of these materials.
4. Modules that when interlocked with each other form wall and partition structures for use in the Construction and DIY industries.
5. A module that is substantially as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
