Abstract

A golf tee comprises a generally rectangular stem 2, and a spike 9 which, in use, is disposed at an angle to the stem. Stem 2 and spike 9 are attached by way of a pivot pin 10 which passes trough the upper end 8 of the spike, and through a vertically elongated aperture 3 in the stem such that the height of stem 2 may be adjusted relative to spike 9, and stem 2 may pivot relative to spike 9. The upper end of spike 9 comprises spaced, opposed members 8 having slots which engage with serrations or ridges 4 provided on stem 2, such that spike 9 grips stem 2 when stem 2 has been positioned at a desired height. When spike 9 is inserted into the ground, stem 2 is free to pivot when struck by a club thus minimising resistance to the passage of the club head, and preventing displacement of the tee by the club.

The present invention Is a golf lee which pivots, is adjustable m height and remains m the ground after the golf ball has been hit. The problem golfers face with ordinary golf'tees IS that the golf tee often ends up being snapped, bent, damaged, or lost as the golf club makes contact. with the golf tee and golf' bal] at the point of the downswing. The golf ball sits on the dished cup at 1 which forms the top end of the rectangular stem at 2. The rectangular stern has a vertical hole at 3 running its entire length below the dished cup. This hole is to enable the rectangular sten1 to move upwards or downwards to enable the height of the rectangular stem to be adjusted and the pivot pin at 10 to operate regardless of the height of the rectangular stem (the height being adjustable as described below). Each side of the rectangular stem arc repeated sedations at 4 equidistance apart and at opposite quarters of the rectangular stem, such sedations extending vertically the entire length of the rectangular stem and stopp?ngJust below the dished cup. The bottom end of the rectangular stem Is curved at 6 so that it does not catch on the base of the angula?- spike at 7 At the top end of the angular spike there are two vertical upper members at 8 at opposite sides in which there are holes at 5 through which the pivot pm resides. The effect is that the rectangular stem pivots in the members at the top end of the angular spike. 'I'he inside surface of each of the upper members of the angular spike have slots which equate to each of the serrations. This allows the rectangular sten1 to be moved upwards or downwards and to remain in place once positioned. The angular spike at 9 comprises a base and vertical upper members which contains the holes for the pivot pm and the internal surface slots, and below the base the spike is set at an angle to the base, so that when the spike Is pushed into the ground the base and upper part of the spike and the rectangular stem and dished cup are vertical and at a 90 degree angle lo the ground When the golf ball Is hit the club head will strike the edge of the dished cup and as it does so the rectangular stem will pivot by way of the pivot pin so that it pushes over and allows the club head to clear the golf tee without displacing or damaging it 'I'he golf' lee can then be removed and reset for the next tee shot.

Claims The applicant makes the following claims.

A golf tee that comprises a rectangular upper stem and a separate lower angular spike which are joined together by a pivot at the bottom end of the rectangular upper stem and the base at the top end of the lower angular spike so that when the goli'ball Is hit the upper stem is pushed over by the golf club and the lower splve remams m the ground.
2. A golf' lee that comprises a rectangular upper stem which has a vertical hole runnmg its length below the dished cup for the purposes of the pivot
3. A golf tee that composes a rectangular upper stem with serratons along opposite sides which correspond to slots on the inside surface of the pivot support members.
4. A golf tee which is adjustable m height by way of height adjusting serratons as described In claim 3
5. A golf tee that comprises a spike which pushes into the ground to its base, a base with two upper sides which contain holes for the pivot
6. golf tee which can be reset and reused by the golfer
7. A golf tee which has minimal resistance to the golf club head and allows virtually no force to be lost by transmission from the club head to the ground
S. A golf tee which is less likely then ordinary golf tees to break, bend, suffer damage or bc lost.
