Abstract

A method of controlling a powered sliding device for a vehicle sliding door is disclosed which includes such factors as the speed of the vehicle and the status of a foot brake or parking brake. External forces acting on the door are monitored and a powered sliding device is used to compensate for such forces. Various sensors, such as a vehicle speed sensor 77, foot brake sensor 78 and parking brake sensor 79 provide information to a central controller 66 which operates the powered sliding device. The speed of the door is measured and an auxiliary brake 17 may be used to provide a braking force is periodically applied based on the detected door speed and input from the various other sensors. Three variations are disclosed in which the first variant acts to return the door to an open or closed position, the second variant continues an act of opening or closing the door and the third variant retains the door in an intermediate position.
