Abstract

241,459. Jarvis, H. April 14, 1925. Valves closing after a predetermined interval of flow.-A slow-closing valve has the valve member connected to a leaky piston working in a cylinder loosely mounted in the valve casing. The valve which is opened by a push 19 has a cylindrical part 16<a> adapted to close the seat aperture 12 and has a series of tapered recesses 16<b> to regulate the flow. A final closure is secured by means of a washer mounted in a cup 20 secured by a screw 21 to the end of the member 16a. The cup 20 has a leaky fit in the cylinder 23 which is loosely held against the underside of the seat partition by a central projection 26 on a perforated plate 24 screwed into the casing. The top of the cylinder is provided with a series of notches 27 to permit water passing from the inlet up outside the cylinder to pass to the seat aperture and also leak between the piston and cylinder to the back of the piston. Instead of notching the cylinder, ribs may be formed on the underside of the seat partition. A spring 28 may be arranged between the top of the seat partition and a collar 29 on the spindle 16.
