Flexible-band files; fastenings; covers.-A loose-leaf book is provided with leaf-holding means associated with a back member 14, 15, disposed in the cover so as to lie behind and in the plane of the block of leaves when the book is closed. The leaf-holding means comprise flexible filing members 12 attached to one cover 10, their ends being provided with hooks 18 adapted to engage eyes 17 in arcuate members 13, which can be drawn into the back member 14, 15 so that the hooks cannot be detached. The part 14 of the back member is provided with arcuate recesses 21 in which the members 13 are guided. Between the parts 14, 15 is slidably mounted a bar 16 having slots 23 engaging pins 22 on the members 13, the bar 16 being operable by a knob 19 to draw the members 13 into the back. The parts 14, 15, which are arranged so as to be perpendicular to the back of the cover, may be situated within the cover, as shown in Fig. 1, or on the outside. The flexible members 12 may be secured to the cover, the inner lining of the cover, or to a plate or the like secured to the cover, by knotting their ends or by passing them through apertures in the cover &c. The members 12 may consist of a coiled spring covered with celluloid or impregnated cotton, or other flexible strips may be employed.
