Abstract
A connecting device (300) for connecting an article (800) releasably to a retaining ring (10) includes a housing (4) attached to the article (800), a rotating member (5) mounted rotatably within the housing (4) by a pivot pin (53), and a positioning member (6) disposed movably within the housing (4) . The rotating member (5) is rotatable between a release position and a retaining position, and is biased to the release position. When the retaining ring (10) is inserted into a slot (46) in the housing (4), it engages a retaining groove (51) in the rotating member (5) and rotates the rotating member (5) from the release position to the retaining position. When the rotating member (5) rotates to the retaining position, the positioning member (6) is biased to move within the housing (4) along a direction parallel to the pivot pin (53) so as to engage a positioning unit of the rotating member (5), thereby preventing further rotation of the rotating member (5) relative to the housing (4) . At this time, the retaining ring (5) is confined within the retaining groove (51) in the rotating member (5) and between the rotating member (5) and the housing (4).
Description
CONNECTING DEVICE FOR CONNECTING AN ARTICLE RELEASABLY TO
A RETAINING RING
This invention relates to a connecting device for connecting a safety seat releasably to a vehicle seat, and more particularly to a connecting device for connecting a safety seat releasably to a retaining ring on a vehicle seat.
EP0943487 discloses a connecting device for connecting a safety seat releasably to a retaining ring on a vehicle.
Although the connecting device can hold a safety seat temporarily and effectively on a retaining ring, the structure of the connecting device is relatively complex.
Furthermore, the operation of the connecting device is relatively troublesome.
Therefore, the object of this invention is to provide a connecting device for connecting a safety seat releasably to a retaining ring, which has a simple structure and which can be operated easily.
According to an aspect of this invention, a connecting device for connecting an article releasably to a retaining ring includes: a housing attached to the article and having a front end that is formed with a slot which has an open front end and a closed rear end; a pivot pin disposed on the housing; a rotating member mounted rotatably within the housing by the pivot pin end haying en outer periphery thatis formed with a retaining groove end a positioning unit, the rotating member teeing rotatable about the pivot pin between a release position, where insertion of the retaining ring into the slot in the housing causes the retaining ring to engage the retaining groovein the rotatingmember, end a retaining position, where removal of the retaining ring from the retaining groove in the rotating member is prevented; a first biasing member disposed between the rotating member and the housing for biasing the rotating member to rotate to the release position; a positioning member disposed movably within the housing and movable within the housing along a direction parallel to the pivot pin; and a second biasing member disposed between the positioning member and the housing for biasing the positioning member to move toward and engage the positioning unit of the rotating member so as to prevent rotation of the rotating member within the housing when the rotating member is disposed at the retaining position, rearward movement of the retaining ring within the slot in the housing from the front end of the slot to the rear end of the slot causing the rotating member to rotate from the release position to the retaining position so that the second biasing member biases the positioning member to engage the positioning unit of the rotating member, thereby confining the retaining ring within the retaining groove in the rotating member and between the rotating member and the housing.
According to another aspect of this invention, a connecting device for connecting a safety seat releasably to a retaining ring on a vehicle seat includes: a housing attached to the safety seat and having a front end that is formed with a slot which has an open front end and a closed rear end; a pivot pin disposed on the housing; a rotating member mounted rotatably within the housing by the pivot pin end having en outer periphery thatis formed with a retaining groove and a positioning unit, the rotating member teeing rotatable about the pivot pin between a release position, where insertion of the retaining ring into the slot in the housing causes the retaining ring to engage the retaining groovein the rotating member, end a retaining position, where removal of the retaining ring from the retaining groove in the rotating member is prevented; a first biasing member disposed between the rotating member and the housing for biasing the rotating member to rotate to the release position; a positioning member disposed movably within the housing and movable within the housing along a direction parallel to the pivot pin; and a second biasing member disposed between the positioning member and the housing for biasing the positioning member to move toward and engage the positioning unit of the rotating member so as to prevent rotation of the rotating member within the housing when the rotating member is disposed at the retaining position, rearward movement of the retaining ring within the slot in the housing from the front end of the slot to the rear end of the slot causing the rotating member to rotate from the release position to the retaining position so that the second biasing member biases the positioning member to engage the positioning unit of the rotating member, thereby confining the retaining ring within the retaining groove in the rotating member and between the rotating member and the housing.
These and other features and advantages of this invention will become apparent in the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of this invention, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a schematic view illustrating how the preferred embodiment of a connecting device according to this invention is disposed between a child safety seat and a retaining ring of a vehicle seat; Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view of the preferred embodiment; Fig. 3 is a schematic sectional side view of the preferred embodiment, illustrating how a rotating member is disposed at a release position and how the retaining ring is inserted into a slot in a housing; Fig. 4 is a schematic sectional side view of the preferred embodiment, illustrating how the retaining ring is moved into a retaining groove in the rotating member; and Fig. 5 is a schematic sectional side view of the preferred embodiment, illustrating how the rotating member S is retained at a retaining position.
Referring to Figs. 1 through5, the preferred embodiment of a connecting device 300 according to this invention connects a child safety seat 800 releasably to a retaining ring 10 on a vehicle seat 100, and is shown to include a housing 4, a rotating member 5, and a positioning member 6.
The housing 4 is includes a pair of left and right halves 41, 42 that are interconnected fixedly to define an accommodating space 43 therebetween. The rotating member 5 and the positioning member 6 are disposed within the accommodating space 43. The housing 4 has a rear end connected fixedly to the child safety seat 800. The left half 41 is generally U-shaped, and includes a vertical wall 410, a horizontal top wall 411, and a horizontal bottom wall 412. The vertical wall 410 has upper and lower ends that are formed respectively and integrally with the top and bottom walls 411, 412, and an inner surface that faces the right half 42 and that is formed with a recess 413.
The accommodating space 43 is defined between the inner surface of the left half 41 and the right half 42 of the housing 4, and is communicated with the recess 413 in the inner surface of the left half 41. Each of the left and right halves 41, 42 has a front end 44 and a rear end 45.
Each of the front ends 44 of the left and right halves 41, 42 is formed with a slot 46 that has an open front end, and a closed rear end.
The rotating member 5 has an outer periphery that is formed with a retaining groove 51 and a positioning unit 52 that is configured as a groove. The retaining groove 51 is defined between a rear retaining arm 511 and a front retaining arm 512 of the rotating member 5. The positioning unit 52 is defined between a lower positioning arm 521 and an upper positioning arm 522 of the rotating member 5. The lower positioning arm 521 is disposed between the upper positioning arm 522 end the rear retaining arm 511, and is adjacent to the rear retaining arm 511.
A pivot pin 53 extends through the rotating member 5, and is connected fixedly to the housing 4 so that the rotating member 5 is mounted rotatably within the housing 4. The rotating member 5 is rotatable about the pivot pin 53 between a release position shown in Fig. 3, where the rear retaining arm 511 extends into the slot 46, and a retaining position shown in Fig. 5.
A first biasing member 55 is disposed between the rotating member 5 and the housing 4, is configured as a coiled tension spring, and has a front end 551 inserted into a hole 57 in the rotating member 5, and a rear end 552 sleeved on a rivet 553 that extends through and that is connected fixedly to the left and right halves 41, 42 of the housing 4. As such, the first biasing member 55 can bias the rotating members to rotate to the release position shown in Fig. 3 so that the lower positioning arm 521 abuts against the bottom wall 412 of the left half 41 of the housing 4, thereby retaining the rotating member 5 at the release position.
The positioning member 6 is configured as an elongated vertical plate, and is formed with an integral tongue 61 at a front end thereof. Two guide pins 63 are fixed within the housing 4, are parallel to the pivot pin 53, and extend respectively through two pinholes 65 in the positioning member 6 so as to permit movement of the positioning member 6 on the guide pins 63.
Two second biasing members 67 are sleeved respectively on the guide pins 63, are configured as coiled compression springs, and are disposed between the left half 41 of the housing 4 and the positioning member 6 so as to bias the positioning member 6 to move from the recess 413 in the inner surface of the left half 41 of the housing 4 into the accommodating space 43. As such, when the rotating member 5 is disposed at the release position shown in Fig. 3 or the position shown in Fig. 4, the positioning member 6 is disposed at a disengaging position in the recess 413, and the tongue 61 of the positioning member 6 presses against a left side surface of the upper positioning arm 522 of the rotating member 5. When the rotating member 5 is disposed at the retaining position shown in Fig. 5, the positioning member 6 is disposed at an engaging position in the accommodating space 43 in the housing 4, and the tongue 61 of the positioning member 6 engages fittingly the positioning unit 52 of the rotating member 5 so as to prevent rotation of the rotating member 5 within the housing 4.
The right half 42 of the housing 4 is formed with a buttonhole 421 therethrough. A pushbutton 68 is disposed movably within the buttonhole 421 in the housing 4, and has a bifurcated inner end that abuts against the positioning member 6 and that is formed with a flange unit 681 extending radially and outwardly therefrom and having a diameter larger than that of the buttonhole 421 in the housing 4 so as to prevent removal of the pushbutton 68 from the buttonhole 421 in the housing 4. The second biasing members 67 bias the positioning member 6 to press the flange unit 681 of the pushbutton 68 against the right half 42 of the housing 4. As such, the pushbutton 68 is operable to move along a direction parallel to the pivot pin 53 so as to move the positioning member 6 from the engaging position to the disengaging position.
During assembly, the retaining ring 10 is inserted into the slots 46 in the left and right halves 41, 42 of the housing 4, as shown in Fig. 3. Subsequently, the retaining ring 10 is moved from the front ends of the slots 46 to the rear ends of the slots 46 so as to contact and rotate the rear retaining arm 511 of the rotating member 5, thereby engaging the retaining groove 51 in the rotating member 5, as shown in Fig. 4. When the retaining ring 10 reaches the rear ends of the slots 46, the rotating member 5 is disposed at the retaining position shown in Fig. 5, where the positioning member 6 is biased by the second biasing member 67 to move from the disengaging position to the engaging position and where the tongue61Of the positioning member 6 engages the positioning unit 52 so as to confine the retaining ring 10 within the retaining groove 51 in the rotating member 5 and between the rotating member 5 and the housing 4, thereby retaining the retaining ring on the housing 4. As such, the assembly of the retaining ring 10 and the connecting device 300 of this invention can be conducted with ease.
When it is desired to remove the retaining ring 10 from the connecting device 300 of this invention, the pushbutton 68 is pressed so as to move the positioning member 6 from the engaging position to the disengaging position, thereby permitting the first biasing member 55 to rotate the rotating members from the retaining position to the release position.
Claims (9)
- CLAIMS: 1. A connecting device for connecting an article releasably to aretaining ring, the connecting device including: a housing attached to the article and having a front end that is formed with a slot which has an open front end and a closed rear end; a pivot pin disposed on the housing; a rotating member mounted rotatably within the housing by the pivot pin and having an outer periphery that is formed with a retaining groove and a positioning unit, the rotating member being rotatable about the pivot pin between a release position, where insertion of the retaining ring into the slot in the housing causes the retaining ring to engage the retaining groove in the rotating member, and a retaining position, where removal of the retaining ring from the retaining groove in the rotating member is prevented; a first biasing member disposed between the rotating member and the housing for biasing the rotating member to rotate to the release position; a positioning member disposed movably within the housing and movable within the housing along a direction parallel to the pivot pin; and a second biasing member disposed between the positioning member and the housing for biasing the positioning member to move toward and engage the positioning unit of the rotating member so es to prevent rotation of the rotating member within the housing when the rotating member is disposed at the retaining position, rearward movement of the retaining ring within the slot in the housing from the front end of the slot to the rear end of the slot causing the rotating member to rotate from the release position to the retaining position so that the second biasing member biases the positioning member to engage the positioning unit of the rotating member, thereby confining the retaining ring within the retaining groove in the rotating member and between the rotating member and the housing.
- 2. The connecting device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the positioning unit of the rotating member is configured as a groove formed in the outer periphery of the rotating member, the positioning member being formed with an integral tongue that engages fittingly the positioning unit of the rotating member when the rotating member is disposed at the retaining member and that is removed from the positioning unit of the rotating member when the rotating member is disposed at the release position.
- 3. The connecting device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the housing includes a pair of left and right halves that are interconnected fixedly to define an accommodating space therebetween, the rotating member and the positioning member being disposed within the accommodating space.
- 4. The connecting device as claimed in Claim 3, wherein the left half of the housing is generally U-shaped, and includes ahorizontaltop wall, a horizontal bottomwall, and a vertical wall having upper and lower ends that are formed respectively and integrally with the top and bottom walls, the vertical wall further having an inner surface that faces the right half of the housing, the lO accommodating space being defined between the inner surface of the left half of the housing and the right half of the housing, the inner surface of the vertical wall being formed with a recess communicated with the accommodating space, the positioning member being movable between an engaging position, where the positioning member engages the positioning unit of the rotating member and where the positioning member is disposed within the accommodating space in the housing, and a disengaging position, where the positioning member is removed from the positioning unit of the rotating member and where the positioning member is disposed within the recess in the vertical wall.
- 5. The connecting device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the housing is formed with a buttonhole, the connecting device further including a pushbutton that is disposed movably within the buttonhole in the housing and that is operable to move along a direction parallel to the pivot pin so as to move the positioning member from the engaging position to the disengaging position.
- 6. The connecting device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the positioning member is formed with two pinholes therethrough, the connecting device further including two guide pins that are fixed within the housing, that are parallel to the pivot pin, and that extend respectively through the pinholes in the positioning member so as to permit movement of the positioning member on the guide pins.
- 7. The connecting device as claimed in Claim 6, wherein the second biasing member is configured as a coiled compression spring that is sleeved on one of the guide pins.
- 8. A connecting device for connecting an article releasably to a retaining ring substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in Figures 1 to 5 of the accompanying drawings.
- 9. A connecting device for connecting a safety seat releasably to a retaining ring on a vehicle seat, the connecting device including: a housing attached to the safety seat and having a front end that is formed with a slot which has an open front end and a closed rear end; a pivot pin disposed on the housing; a rotating member mounted rotatably within the housing by the pivot pin and having an outer periphery that is formed with a retaining groove and a positioning unit, the rotating member being rotatable about the pivot pin between a release position, where insertion of the retaining ring into the slot in the housing causes the retaining ring to engage the retaining groove in the rotating member, and a retaining position, where removal of the retaining ring from the retaining groove in the rotating member is prevented; a first biasing member disposed between the rotating member and the housing for biasing the rotating member to rotate to the release position; a positioning member disposed movably within the housing and movable within the housing along a direction parallel to the pivot pin; and a second biasing member disposed between the positioning member and the housing for biasing the positioning member to move toward and engage the positioning unit of the rotating member so as to prevent rotation of the rotating member within the housing when the rotating member is disposed at the retaining position, rearward movement of the retaining ring within the slot in the housing from the front end of the slot to the rear end of the slot causing the rotating member to rotate from the release position to the retaining position so that the second biasing member biases the positioning member to engage the positioning unit of the rotating member, thereby confining the retaining ring within the retaining groove in the rotating member and between the rotating member and the housing.lO.The connecting device as claimed in Claim 9, wherein the positioning unit of the rotating member is configured as a groove formed in the outer periphery of the rotating member, the positioning member being formed with an integral tongue that engages fittingly the positioning unit of the rotating member when the rotating member is disposed at the retaining member and that is removed from the positioning unit of the rotating member when the rotating member is disposed at the release position.ll.A connecting device for connecting a safety seat releasably to a retaining ring on a vehicle seat substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in Figures 1 to 5 of the accompanying drawings.
