Refrigerating, compression machines for; refrigerators, domestic and like. - The evaporator coil surrounding the storage chamber of a cabinet is embedded in a solid material such as asphalt, which is a very poor heat conductor and which is adapted to be introduced in a semi-fluid condition and then to harden into shape. In the cabinet shown, a machine 24 of the compression type with an expansion valve 25 supplies refrigerant such as ammonia to a pipe 26, which is formed in pairs of coils 17, 19, 22 surrounding sets of food containers 14, 12, 9 arranged in series. Asphalt or other suitable material is used in a plastic or semi-fluid condition to flow around the coils and containers and to seal their exteriors from the air. The containers may be of metal or the asphalt may be cast about a core, which is withdrawn when the asphalt has set. Partitions 20 of cork or other heat-insulating material may be used between adjacent containers. The cabinet also comprises side and bottom walls 5 and a top 6 of heat-insulating material, and preferably also an outer sheath 7 of enamelled metal. For producing different temperatures in the storage compartments, the pipe 26 supplying refrigerating medium is formed into the greater number of convolutions around the chamber 14 and into the least number around the chamber 9 nearest to the machine. The coils may be spot welded to the walls of the containers or fastened thereto by metal straps.
