Abstract
241,164. Ketterer, E. Oct. 9, 1924, [Convention date]. Plants, treatment of growing .-In an installation for heating hot-houses and supplying them with carbonic acid gas, means are provided for dissolving in a solution the carbonic acid contained in the combustion gases of a furnace and subsequently liberating it and also for supplying the carbonic acid direct without dissolving it, the apparatus used, in the one case, for dissolving the carbonic acid being, in the other case, used for washing the combustion gases. The gases from the furnace 1 that heats the boiler 2 pass first through a flue 4 to a washer 5, where they are freed from sulphurous acid. The washed gases pass through a pipe 8 into an absorbing chamber 9 where they meet a solution such as soda lye delivered from a sprinkler 13. The carbonic acid is dissolved and forms a bicarbonate solution while the residual gases escape through a chimney 14. The bicarbonate solution is pumped along a pipe 12 and passes back into the chamber 9 for further saturation. When required it may be passed into a vaporizer 17 heated from the boiler by a coil 18. The mixture of steam and carbonic acid from the vaporizer passes into a ribbed condensing chamber 19 in a casing 20 through which fresh air is driven by a blower 21. The condensed steam is returned to the chamber 9 and the carbonic acid passes into the pressure pipe of the blower 21 and is driven with the air through the pipe 25 to the hot-house. The carbonic acid may be stored up in the solution during the night for use in the dav time. When the carbonic acid is not to be dissolved, water is used in the chamber 9 instead of a solution and the washed gas passes direct to the blower 21 through the chimney 14 and a pipe 31, the vaporizer 17 and condenser 19 being inoperative. If the combustion gases are not to be passed through the apparatus they may be directed into the open through a chimney 27.
