Abstract
A spinning optical illusion greeting card comprising a flat card in the form of two circles 1 joined together 2, each circle 1 having two holes 3 positioned horizontally 4 along the edges to receive two elastic bands. The card has a printed image and when assembled it is spun to create an optical illusion. Preferably the card is folded in half to create one circle, each outer surface having an image. Elastic bands may be inserted through the holes 3 on each side of the folded circle to enable the card to be spun backwards and forwards by hand. The spinning motion may cause the images on each side of the card to combine and form an optical illusion. The elastic band on one side may be untied enabling the card to be opened to reveal and/or write a message (14, fig 8).
Description
1 2408717 A card This invention relates to a spinning optical illusion
card such as a greeting card.
Cards such as greetings cards are usually designed with an image or message on the front and a verse on the inside. The spinning optical illusion card has an image on the front and reverse of the card and messageherse inside.
According to the present invention there is provided a spinning optical illusion card which comprises of two circles, although the card need not be circular, joined down one side folded together to create one circle. There is one image the right way up on the front of the card and another image upside down on the reverse of the card. On the left and right hand side of the card there are holes punched through it and an elastic band is looped and secured through each hole, these elastic bands are subsequently held between the forefinger and thumb twisted backwards and forwards, hereby creating the spinning mechanism. This motion of spinning causes the images on the front and reverse of the card to be seen as one image thus creating the optical illusion. The right hand elastic band is untied from the card and the card opened out flat to reveal and/or write message.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the card opened out flat to show 2 circles joined on one side, with four punched holes visible on the edges along the horizon line; Figure 2 shows the card folded in half to show one circle, with two punched holes visible on either edge along the horizon line; and Figures shows the folded card with an elastic band inserted through each of the two punched holes on either edge along the horizon line; Figure 4a, shows the front of the folded card, with elastic bands inserted through the two punched holes on either edge along the horizon line, with one image on the it the right way up; and Figure 4b shows the reverse of the folded card, with elastic bands inserted through the two punched holes on either edge along the horizon line, with one image on the it upside down; Figure 5a shows the front of the folded card, with elastic bands inserted through the two punched holes on either edge Figure 5b shows the reverse of the folded card, with elastic bands inserted through the two punched holes on either edge along the horizon line, with one image on the it; held between forefinger and thumb being twisted forwards; and Figure 6 shows that when the folded card is spun by twisting the elastic bands between forefinger and thumb backwards and forwards the images on the front and reverse of the folded card come together to create the optical illusion of one image; Figure 7 shows the right hand elastic band untied and the card partially open; and Figure 8 shows the card opened out flat to reveal and/or write message.
With reference to the drawings, the spinning optical illusion card such as a greeting card comprises of the flat card made up of two circles 1 joined together 2, with four punched holes 3 visible on the edges (along the horizon line) 4; this is then folded in half to create one circle 5 elastic bands 6 are inserted through the punched holes 3; with an image on the front 7 and reverse 8 of each side of the folded card 5; the elastic bands 6 are then held between thumb and forefinger 9 and twisted backwards 10 and forwards 11; to create the spinning motion which makes the images on the front 7 and reverse 8 of the card 5 into one image 12 thus creating the optical illusion the right hand elastic band 6 is untied from the card 5 and the card opened out flat 1 to reveal and/or write message 14.
Claims (6)
1 A spinning optical illusion card such as a greeting card comprising a flat card in the form of two circles joined together, four punched holes on the edges along the horizon line of the each circle two per circle, two elastic bands, printed image; which when assembled and spun creates an optical illusion.
2 A spinning optical illusion card as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the two circles are folded together to create one circle, with a printed image on the front and reverse of each side of the aforementioned circle.
3 A spinning optical illusion card as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein elastic bands are inserted through the punched holes on the right and left hand side of the folded circle and held between thumb and forefinger twisted backwards and forwards creating a spinning motion.
4 A spinning optical illusion card as claimed in Claim 3 wherein the spinning motion causes the printed image on the front and reverse of each side of the folded circle to form an optical illusion.
A spinning optical illusion card as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the right hand elastic band is untied from the card, the card opened out flat to reveal and/or write message.
6 A spinning optical illusion card substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-8 of the accompanying drawings.
