Abstract

A baby support comprises one end for attachment to a first vehicle seat (e.g. an aircraft seat) and a second end [B, Figure 2] to be secured around the waist of a person occupying a second seat located behind the first. In use, the baby support bridges the gap formed between two vehicle seats, with one end having a hood that is placed over the head rest of the front seat, and the second end having ties which are capable of being tied around the waist of an occupant of the back seat. The support is made from a strong fabric and preferably has a Y-shaped restraint [C, Figure 2] in which the baby is seated.

Description

TRAVEL BABY SUPPORT

The invention is a baby support for use on a passenger aircraft or train, which bridges the gap between the passenger and the seat directly in front.

When travelling on an aircraft, an infant under two years old is required to sit on the parents knee throughout the flight, thus causing discomfort and restricting the use of both arms usually for long periods of time.

Accordingly, an object of this invention is to provide the parent with arms/hands free movement and reduce the weight carried on the knee.

The invention is also of such a design that it is very light and compact for travel.

Preferably, the invention is to be made of a strong textile material such as cotton and of a design pleasing to children of this age.

One end of the invention is positioned partly over the headrest of the seat directly in front.

The other side is to be tied to the parent's waist by passing two straps around the waist, then tied in a bow or 'Velcro' fastening.

A 'Y' shaped restraint, (preferably in the same material) secures the baby.

Two slots, one either side of the baby position are cut into the material to give the option of a baby lap seat belt to be fed through.

Non essential additions such as a padded moveable head restraint or novelty shapes, figures, textures or pockets of beads may be added around the side of the invention (if desired) in order to stimulate the baby.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure I shows a side view with the invention positioned on seat and parent.

Figure 2 shows a plan view of the invention.

Figure 3 shows the baby restraint 'C'. 2.

As shown in figure 2, the baby support comprises a main seat 'A' having as its upper end, a hood shape design which is elasticated so as to accommodate a range of head rest sizes.

The lower end of the main seat 'A' is curved in order to fit a typical adult's waist when seated.

Figure 2 shows a strap 'B' is attached to each corner of the lower end of the main seat 'A' in order for the straps to be passed around the adult's waist and tied or joined.

Figure 2 shows two slots are cut into the textile at either side of the baby so as a lap seat belt may be passed through and fitted.

Figure 2 and figure 3 shows the 'Y' shaped baby restraint 'C' is fixed to the main body 'A' so as the baby is held in a central position.

Figure I shows the travel baby support correctly attached to both the adult and the seat directly in front so as the baby is supported in the textile. 3.

Claims (5)

1. A travel baby support, of which one end attaches to the seat head rest directly in front by means of a hood shape design and the other end is tied at the waist of the baby's seated parent.

2. A travel baby support as claimed in claim 1, that is made from a strong textile.

3. A travel baby support as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 that incorporates a 'Y'shaped restraint in which the baby is held.

4. A travel baby support as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A travel baby support which, in use, bridges the gap between a first seat and the occupant of a second seat that is located behind the first seat, the support comprising: a first end that is attached to a head rest of the first seat by means of a hood shape design that fits over the head rest; and a second end which is adapted to be tied or joined around the waist of an occupant of the second seat.

2. A travel baby support as claimed in claim 1, that is made from a strong lightweight textile.

3. A travel baby support as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 that incorporates a 'Y'shaped restraint in which the baby is held.

4. A travel baby support according to any of the preceding claims, that supports an infant by being suspended between two fixed points whilst seated or laid in a textile.

5. A travel baby support as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
