Abstract

A safety mat (10) includes a polygonal planar body (12) having an upper liquid collecting surface (14), a bottom surface, and several peripheral edges. A plurality of closely spaced truncated projections (20) of uniform height are positioned on the liquid collecting surface (14). The truncated projections (20) form a high traction travel surface (22) that is raised above any accumulated liquids on the liquid collecting surface (14). A safety mat assembly (100) can be made in modular fashion by joining several of the safety mats (10) and enclosing them with a liquid retaining border (48).
