Abstract

An annular protective device which can be fitted to the rim of a road wheel of a vehicle to protect the rim from abrasion, eg caused by contact with a curb. The device is fitted over the wheel rim with the tyre in a deflated condition. A flange on the device is inserted between the tyre and the wheel rim and, when the tyre is inflated, the device is held in place by the pressure exerted by the tyre on the device and the rim. The device may be formed from plastic by injection moulding but other materials may be used.

DESCR1PTION
THE SAUNDERS ALLOY WHEEL RIM PROTECTOR
This invention is primarily concerned with the protection of the alloy road wheels of a motor car.
Alloy wheels are a very expensive item to purchase, but are unfortunately, prone to damage, especially when parking.
The aim of the invention is not to try to protect the wheels from any high speed collisions, but from the irritating scratches, scuffs, and dents that can happen mostly, for example, whilst parking.

This product, although mainly for the car industry, could in fact be used in other fields, where protection for a spinning wheel is needed. It would be manufactured in injected moulded plastic, or other materials as is necessary.
As in fig. I the Protector is self attached to the rim of a wheel by means of it's design, which allows the inside lip to be trapped between the tyre and the wheel, leaving the outside section for protection. To attach the product,this is achieved by deflating the tyre, then stretching, or heating the Protector, whichever is easiest, over the outside rim of the wheel, thus trapping the product between tyre and wheel, preventing the Protector coming off at high speed. After fitting, the tyre is then reinflated and balanced. 2.

Claims (4)

  1. CLAIM
    I A protective component, mainly for the car industry, Hat can be fitted at anytime to the wheels of a motorcar. This item would help prevent light accidental damage to the wheels, i.e. scuffs and scratches.
  2. 2 The Alloy Wheel Protector would be manufactured in the shape of a preformed hoop, made of plastic, or any other materials relevant to the application. It is self attached, by means of its design to the outside rim of a wheel.
  3. 3 The Alloy Wheel Protector would be formed to suit the various diameters of wheels.
  4. 4 It can be coloured normal silver, or colour coded to suit.
