Abstract

A dog coat which is close fitting, fitting tightly around the neck, with a hole for the ears and a hole for the tail. The coat is shaped to allow the legs to move freely. The fabric is elasticated and has fastenings underneath the belly of the dog. The cover is made of a fabric which creates a friction with the dog's hair, producing a shiny natural coat on the dog which is of particular importance in dog show competitions.

Description

1 2404333 Don Coat.
Overview In dog showing, a lot of breeds require a shiny coat that can take exhibitors hours to achieve.
The Problem This can be achieved by the use of hair products such as sprays, gels and mouse, however using such products is against Kennel Club Regulations, and one can be penalized for this.
The Solution The aim of this dog coat is to achieve the same shiny coat without the use of any hair products, and therefore remaining with in Kennel club Regulations.
Essential Features À Coat design A. Coat A is predominantly made of 100% Lycra fabric. It has a good fit, is durable, and comfortable.
The Lycra creates friction against the hair on the dog - which in turn produces a smooth, shiny effect on the hair. Having been worn for just an hour the dog's hair will be glossy, without the use of hair products.
Coat Design B. À Coat B is predominantly constructed from Nylon breathable fabric - which can be worn from wet. The dog can be bathed and the coat will allow the hair to breath through the webbing.
The webbing also produces friction against the hair on the dog, producing a glossy coat. The hair is fully able to dry as this is taking place, thus saving on drying time prior to a dog show.
Both coat designs include elasticised strips with 'popper' fastenings.
These ensure that the dog is not restricted by the fitting of the coat and is comfortable throughout the process.
Introduction to the Drawings
Dog Coat A. Diagram 1A This shows the profile of the dog coat, demonstrating how it will be This clearly shows that the dog, while unrestricted by the coat, is also fit closely along the back, head and down the sides in order to smooth the hair and create enough friction for the coat to be effective at producing the glossy affect.
The elasticised ear sections (fig. 1) are sewn into the coat, in position but without any holes initially. The buyer then is instructed to cut the holes for the ears in the correct place for their particular dog, to ensure a good fit. The holes do not fray as the elasticised fabric is over sewn.
The underside of the coat is left loose, with two 'flaps' of fabric coming down the side of the dog to almost meet the floor. As shown in fig 2.
Diagram 2A Still demonstrating Dog Coat A. The back view of the coat shows that it allows the dog's tail to hang free of any fabric. There is a hole for the tail.
Diagram 3A This is the underneath view. These are the only fastenings required on the coat. On the undersides, there is a strip of elasticised material, sewn into the underside of the Lycra. These join at either side and fasten loosely under the stomach of the dog. They are fastened firmly with 'popper' fastenings.
Dog Coat B Diagram 1B This shows the profile of the dog coat, demonstrating how it will be This clearly shows that the dog, while unrestricted by the coat, is also fit closely along the back, head and down the sides in order to smooth the hair and create enough friction for the coat to be effective at producing the glossy affect.
