Abstract

A garment, e.g. of waistcoat style, to be worn on the upper torso of a wearer comprises multiple pockets 5(A-C) suitable for the storage of small articles, e.g. telephones, keys, wallets, pens, lipstick, glasses etc. The garment is preferably manufactured from woven panels 2A,2B which are sewn together. The garment can be worn unobtrusively underneath a suit or jacket. The pockets are shaped to accommodate different articles.

Description

The present invention relates to a garment, particularly for carrying articles on the upper torso of the body. It is often desirable to carry articles on ones person. For example many people carry with them articles relating to their work such as mobile phones, personal organisers and computers and pens. They also carry personal articles such as wallets, keys, coins, or even a personal stereo/video. They also carry toiletries such as perfume, lipstick, tampons, and mirrors. For men in particular these articles do not necessarily fit in pockets of clothing, and even if they do, e.g. in a jacket, it can make the jacket or other garment look unsightly and out of shape. Women often carry handbags, but these are not always wanted or big enough to carry all articles. The invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem. According to the present invention there is provided a garment comprising: a) a pair of panels of a size each to cover generally one side of the upper torso of a person, b) support means to support the panels from the shoulders, and c) one or more pockets and/or pouches on each panel to support articles. Preferably each panel support means is a strap extending from the top of the panel to go over a shoulder. Preferably each panel is connected by a strap passing over the top of the back of a wearer. Preferably the garment is formed from a textile such as a woven fabric. Preferably the garment is integrally formed from a textile. Preferably the pair of panels are symmetrical. Preferably said one or more pockets and/or pouches are each shaped to hold different articles selected from wallets, train or bus pass, credit cards, mobile phones, personal computers such as handheld/palm pilots, keys, pens, loose change, personal stereo/video (e.g. mini disc player, MP3 player), glasses, lipstick, tampons, mirror, headphones, and phone hands free unit, or other articles. An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a front perspective view of a garment, Figure 2 shows a side perspective view of the garment Figure 3 shows a rear perspective view of the garment, and Figure 4 shows a side view of the garment. Referring to the drawings there is shown a garment 1. Garment 1 comprises a pair of symmetrical panels 2A,2B. Each panel 2A,2B is of a size to cover generally only one side of the upper torso of a person. The front of the upper torso remains uncovered so that the panels are not visible when seen under a jacket. Support means to support the panels from the shoulders are provided in the form of shoulder straps 3A,3B extending from the top of each panel respectively. Both panels are connected by a back strap 4 passing over the top of the back of a wearer One or more pockets and/or pouches are on each panel to support articles. As shown panel 2A supports pockets 5A,5B,5C, and panel 2B supports pockets 5D,5E. Preferably pockets 5A,5B,5C,5D,5E are each shaped to hold different articles. The articles may be wallets, train or bus pass, credit cards, mobile phones, personal computers such as hand held/palm pilots, keys, pens, loose change, personal stereo/video (e.g. mini disc player, MP3 player), glasses, lipstick, tampons, mirror, headphones, and phone hands free unit, or other articles. Preferably the garment 1 is integrally formed from a textile such as a woven fabric. It may be of any desired colour and/or pattern. The garment may be formed from sections of textile material sewn together. Instead of pockets pouches may be used. In use the garment is worn and used to carry articles. Because the garment does not cover a large proportion of the upper torso, like a waistcoat, it does not need to fit exactly to the upper torso shape. It is envisaged that perhaps only three sizes need be produced for use by different sizes of men and woman. It is envisaged that different garments could be produced with pockets or pouches adapted to take different types of articles, e.g. garments to take articles for men and garments to take articles for women. Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
