Abstract

A bookmark has an elastic cord with ends joined with a metal ferrule G. A decorative bead covers the ferrule. A second decorative bead is threaded over the loop of the cord and pushed down to meet the bead fixed over the ferrule. An adjustable bead is looped over the cord to provide adjustment to the cord for different sized books. Ribbons F can be attached to the cord to allow for multi referencing.

Adjustable Bookmark

The invention relates to a bookmark which includes elastic cord, a fixing bead is attached, then cords are joined using a metal ferrule, two further decorative beads are then put on over the loop of cord to cover the metal ferrule, the last bead is the adjustable bead this slides up and down the cord, it is adjusted to the size of the book being used.

Bookmarks are well known but suffer from the disadvantage that, they often fall out or are not easy to use. This can be frustrating to the reader.

The object of this invention is to give the reader a bookmark, which once slipped over the book and the adjustable bead secured to the heel of the book, it will stay in place until the book is finished.

Accordingly, this invention provides a bookmark which will not fall off even if the book is dropped, also once the adjustable bead has been secured the pages can be turned by pulling the elastic cord away from the book then slipping the turned page under the cord, and just release the cord back into place. Ribbons can be attached to the top of the cord, which allow for multi references, this is ideal for students.

The Cord is made of elastic, the beads can be made from acrylic, plastics, glass, or wood, the ferrule is made of metal.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure A shows a single length of elastic cord and the fixing bead thread over.

Figure B shows the ferrule now attached and the first decorative bead thread over the loop to cover the ferrule.

Figure C shows the second decorative bead thread over the loop.

Figure D and E shows the adjustable bead attached this will now be-able to slide up and down.

Figure F shows the reference ribbons attached which can be used for multi referencing. The ribbons are attached by knotting them o the elastic cord.

Fig 1 shows the bookmark attached to a book, the adjustable bead has been pushed up to the heel of the book to keep the bookmark secure. The fixed securing bead can be made with a company logo or named initials.

Fig 2 shows the ribbons attached for multi references.

Fig 3 shows the cord being stretched to allow the pages to slip through easily.

The hole of the beads are 2mm in diameter and the cord is 1.5m in diameter the beads are threaded over the loop of the cord so there is 3mm diameter of thread going through each bead this gives the friction needed for the adjustable bead to stay in place. See Figures B. C, and D.

Claims 1. An adjustable bookmark which comprises of a length of elastic

cord, with a fixing bead attached then joined together using a ferrule,
2. A bookmark as claimed in claim 1 where two additional decorative beads are threaded over the loop to hide the ferrule.
3. A bookmark as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 where an adjustable bead is threaded over the loop, this can move up and down freely.
4. A bookmark as claimed in claim 3 where ribbon is attached for the use of multi references.
