Abstract

A multi-way controller switching potentially dangerous or high voltages by first switching a low and therefore safer dc voltage. Additionally the Multi-way controller will allow this low voltage switching to be operated from one or more locations.

Description

Multi-way switch controller This invention relates to an electrical switch
controller, which may or may not be visible to the user. It Is operated by touching or approaching a sensor or operating a conventional switch, for example a "make or break" switch or an electronic sensor type switch. This /these swrtch/swtches cormect to a controller, made of plastic or meta] construction or a con:bnaton of these materials, winch Is placed m a floor, celmg or wall void or any other suitable position. The controller operates on altenatrng current at values suitable for operating for example ertller 110 vac or 230 vac, as well as direct current voltages where required The controller also outputs a low dc voltage whc}i is cornlect.cd to and which operates and Is switched by the swrtclles or sensors mentioned above The controller will, on the operation of a switch or sensor, switch power to an electrical device such as a light, electric fan or any other electrical device chosen In addition the controller will allow swrtchrug of the same device from a number of locations, this switching could be efccted using conventional switches or electronic sensors or a combination of these conventional domestic electrical circuits and swrtclles e wall light switches operate on high voltages, t'-r example 240 vac, and can be a danger should they be broken or the cabling Is for example drilled into by an drill or pierced by a nail Such circuits cannot, by virtue of the high voltages present, be used in wet areas such as bathrooms or swrnmmg pool areas; whereas the Mult-way switch controller with it's bult- n electrical Isolation allows switches to be used In such areas, because they are only oE>eratng at low d voltages, and by virtue If this, are safe redrilled Into for example.
The object of tiers invention Is to provide an easily fitted, sate alternative for a switch such as a light switch w hatch can for instance be used in any room m a house or elsewhere, and which provides safe and simple switching of fixed electrical Items such as lights, fans and other usually, but not exclusively, fixed appliances. It should be easy to use by the very young, by able bodied as well as the elderly or disabled AccordmOly this Invention provides an electronic switch controller enabling the user or installer to operate electrical devices such as fights fans and other usually, but not exc]usrvely, fixed appliances using a safe low voltage at the swffcl, whilst operating higher ac voltages through the Multa-way controller.
A prefcrTed embodiment of the mventon will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing In which I-I(iURE 1 Shows a drawmg represenhng the use of a multi-way controller with m this case 3 sensor pads at each of'3 doorways. All 3 arc controlling I set of lights FIGURE 2 Shows a drawmg representing a sensor pad l:lGURl' 3 Shows a drawing representing a typical Mu]t-way controller housing.
As shown In Figure 1, the mu]t-way controller (]) mounted In a celling void (5) AC power supplied to the controller (7) and AC power front the multr-way controller to the lights (8) are shown as double solid lmes 'I'he we-es collecting the swt.ching pads mounted on a faceplate made of'plastc, wood or metal or a c-'rmbinaton of these or standard light switches (6), operating on low voltage DC are shown as a single dashed Imc (2). Doorways (3) and walls (4) are shown Air representative purposes Figure 2 shows a typical sensor pad (9) with low voltage wires (2) attached mounted on a faceplate made of p]astc' wood or metal or a combination of these (6).
Impure 3 shows a Multr-way controller (1) with AC power supply wires (7), AC swtchcd wires (8) and knew voltage L)C wires (2)

Claims (1)

1 An electnca] switch controller, constructed of metal or plastics natcnal or a combination of these materials and housing the electrical pan's w]:ch include flee switch, which Is activated by switches or sensors operating on a low do voltage. One or mote switches or sensors are able to operate the Multi-way co..trc,ller The controller asseTnb]y IS constructed of mete] or plastics natural car a combnat.ori of these n:alenals, with wires or other comcctons, and enables a safe low voltage switched signal to operate a hg]ler voltage and thus provide a safe alternative to conventional eJectncaJ switching, dimming or time swtchng electrical apparatus such as]ghts, fans arid other usually fixed apphanccs
