Abstract

An automatic levelling and stabilisation system for a caravan or camper van. The system comprises four or more motorised legs 3 mounted near the corners of the underside of the caravan/camper van and an electronic control unit 1 for sensing the orientation of the vehicle with respect to the horizontal and controlling the operation of the legs. Electrical power for the system is supplied from the motor vehicle's battery or the leisure battery 2. Once levelling has been achieved, the control unit stabilises the caravan/camper van by lowering any legs not in contact with the ground until they support the vehicle.

Description

DESCIPTION.
This invention relates to a self levelling system for caravans and camper vans.
At present the levelling and stabilising of caravans is done by manually winding down a leg at each corner of the caravan and judging by eye it's levelness this method although tried and tested, it can be time consuming and hard work.
This system levels caravans and camper van by use of an electronic control unit sending power and information to motorised legs mounted to the caravan or camper van.
The system draws power from the vehicle or the leisure battery. The control panel is mounted by the door.
Specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which, Fig 1 Shows a top view of a caravan showing the lay out of the system. Fig 2
Shows a side view of a caravan and shows the approx.
position of the control panel and legs.
Referring to the drawing of a caravan Fig 1 shows the approx. position of the electronic control unit 1, distributing through the wiring harness 4, power drawn from the battery 2.
The electronic control unit is fitted and calibrated to now when the vehicle or caravan is level or not.
The control panel shown in Fig 2 is mounted by the door.
The legs 3 are mounted under the vehicle or caravan.
If not all the legs are required for levelling the electronic control unit brings down the remaining legs for stability.

Claims (4)

  1. A system fitted to a caravan of camper van, which enables legs to be lowered and raised by the push of a button bringing the vehicle level and giving stability
  2. 2. As in claim 1 a self levering system where in a electronic control unit once fitted a calibrated automatically recognises the angle of the vehicle (caravan) however on level it sits.
  3. 3. As in claim 1 or 2 a self-levelling system where in has motorised legs controlled by an electronic control unit and using power from the leisure or the vehicle battery.
  4. 4. As in claim 1, 2 and 3 a self-levelling system where in if not all legs are required for levelling the vehicle or caravan the electronic control unit will bring down the remaining legs for stability.
