Abstract

An aid to beard trimming, shaving, make-up or the like comprises a sheet or film 10 secured or suspended in front of a mirror, where the sheet has transparent regions through which the user may view their reflection in the mirror, and opaque or tinted regions 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 which provide a guide for trimming the beard. The opaque or tinted regions may include reference or position markers (12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 figure 2) to ensure a standard positioning of his or her head in relation to the markers provided on the film. The sheet or film may be secured with adhesive pads or suckers 22 at its edges or corners, or hooks connected to the upper edge of the mirror to suspend the sheet or film in front of the mirror.

Description

"Aid to Beard Trimming or the like" THIS INVENTION relates to an aid to
personal operations, carried out in front of the mirror, such as beard trimming, shaving, make-up or the like. s
In such operations, when the person concerned is carrying out the operation guided by his reflection in a mirror, with the unaided eye, it is often difficult to achieve the desired symmetry in the final result. It is the object of the present invention to provide means whereby this difficulty may be alleviated.
According to the present invention there is provided an aid to beard trimming, shaving, make-up, or the like personal operations carried out using a mirror, the aid comprising a sheet or film adapted to be secured to or suspended in front of a mirror, said sheet or film having transparent regions through which the user may view reflections in such mirror and opaque or tinted regions or markers to provide a guide for said personal operations.
Preferably said opaque or tinted regions or markers include reference or position markers for alignment with features of the user's head, such as the eyes, whereby the user can ensure a standard positioning of his or her head in relation to other markers provided on said sheet or film.
Embodiments of the invention are described below by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is an elevation view of an aid embodying the present invention; Figure 2 shows the same aid in use secured to a mirror with a reflection of the user in that mirror; and Figure 3 illustrates an alternative form of the aid.
Referring to the drawings, a device in accordance with the invention for use in allowing a man to trim accurately and symmetrically, for example, a goatee beard, moustache and/or side-burns is illustrated, comprising a plastics film 10 which is adapted to be fixed to the front surface of a mirror. The film is transparent, apart from regions indicated at 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20, which serve as markers and which are opaque, e.g. printed black, or are tinted so as to be clearly visible to a person looking into a mirror to which the sheet or film 10 lO is attached.
The sheet or film lO may be formed of a plastics having the ability to adhere temporarily but repeatedly to a clean glass surface, or may be provided with adhesive pads or suckers at its edges or corners, such as illustrated at 22 in the drawings, or may have hooks or the like connected to its upper edge, which can be engaged over the upper edge of a mirror to suspend the sheet or film 10 in front of and closely adjacent to the mirror.
In use of the device, as illustrated in Figure 2, once the device has been secured to a mirror, the user positions his head so that, in the example illustrated (Figure 2) sighting points on two markings 12 are aligned on his eyes and a marking 14 extends along the bridge of the nose of his reflection. The user may then determine, without changing position, whether, for example, the boundary of the reflected image of his beard corresponds to that of the marker l 8, or whether the ends of his moustache, in reflection, correspond with respect of ends of markings 16, or whether the lower ends of his side-burns, in reflection, correspond with markers 20. The user may trim the respective portion of hair, using these guides to achieve a desired shape and/or symmetry.
It will be understood that other forms of marking may be used to provide improved versatility or adaptability. For example, as illustrated in Figure 3, the markers may take the form of sets of scales or gradations, or may take the form of a rectangular grid or grids (not shown).
Furthermore, it is not necessary that all useful markings be provided on one transparent sheet of film. Instead, a set or kit of such sheets may be provided with respective markings suitable for different tasks, or for different l O sizes or shapes of beard, moustache, etc., and the arrangement may be such that one such sheet may be superimposed upon another.
Whilst it is preferred that the sheet or film to is in the form of a flexible transparent plastics film which can be applied to a glass mirror, it will be understood that the sheet or film lO could be of rigid transparent material, such as glass, or that the markings 12 to 20 could be applied directly and permanently to a mirror dedicated to the purpose.
Whilst, in the examples described about, the eyes and nose are used for alignment with corresponding markers on the sheet or film to, other readily identifiable and localised features of the face might be selected for alignment with corresponding marker elements on the sheet or film lO, for example the tip of the nose and an ear lobe for operations requiring the user to take a three- quarter view in the mirror.
Whilst the invention has been described above as an aid for use in trimming a beard and/or moustache and/or side-burns, a similar aid might be used by women, for example, for applying make up, such as eyebrow pencils, or trimming hair.
