Abstract
A ground anchor which includes a tube or bracket 1 with attachment points for a rope 3 and two or more pegs 2 which can be inserted at an angle through the bracket into the ground to achieve a firm fixture to which can be attached a rope 3, winch cable or the like. Due to the diverging angle of the pegs, a large amount of ground would have to be disturbed to remove the anchor without withdrawing the pegs (fig 3). The anchor could be used to hold down a tent or caravan in high winds, as a tether to hold an animal, or to pull vehicles out of mud.
Description
LAND ANCHOR
The invention relates to an anchor which provides a fixed point on the ground, to which can be attached a rope, towing strap, chain or winch cable to pull a vehicle out of the mud or to hold down a tent, caravan or the like in a high wind, it can also be used as a tether to restrain an animal.
The advantages of the invention over other means such as a corkscrew or auger are that the pegs are easily inserted in the ground, and easily temoved after use, but while in position the bracket cannot be pulled out without disturbing a large volume of ground due to the angle at which the pegs are held by the bracket. Figure I shows the anchor in position with the pegs inserted.
Figure 2 shows the anchor with the pegs withdrawn Figure 3 shows how a large volume of ground 4 would have to be disturbed to remove the anchor without withdrawing the pegs The bracket I has holes or guides at an angle which causes the pegs 2 to be spread and held apart so as to involve a large volume of ground and make it difficult to remove, winch cable 3 attaches to the end of the bracket.
Claims (1)
1 An anchor providing a means of creating a fixed point on the ground to which can be attached a rope, chain, strap or the like, which can be used as a tether, or to hold down a tarpaulin or in any similar situation where it is necessary to attach to the ground, using a bracket of rigid material having guides to receive two or more pegs also of rigid material, at an angle to each other so that the anchor cannot be removed without the pegs being withdrawn individually from the bracket
