Abstract
238,972. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Few, H. J. June 4, 1924. Indicating rest or motion. - In an in-motion indicator, the member 8 which gives the indication, or produces a switching effect, is rocked by a member 7, the force being transmitted by fluid friction. The members are formed as drums separated by a small space into which oil, grease, &c. contained in the inner drum passes. The drum 7 is fixed to a shaft 2 which is rotated when the shaft under observation is in motion. The drum 8, which surrounds the drum 7 loosely, is rooked by the fluid friction against the action of an adjustable spring 11. It carries an insulated strip 12 adapted to bridge contacts 14, 15 in an indicating circuit, which is broken when the, shaft is in motion. Stops 18, 20 limit the rocking movement. Temperature variations may be compensated for by making the drums of materials having different co-efficients of expansion. According to the Provisional Specification, the spring 11 may be dispensed with.
