Abstract

An information display device which comprises a book with a plurality of sheets, having visual information E, A for the presenter and audience on adjacent facing pages. The sheets are hingedly fastened on the upper margin and the book has a rigid support D enabling the presenter to read whilst simultaneously displaying corresponding information to the audience. Preferably the rigid support is hingedly fastened on the upper margin. The fastener may be a spiral binding C, and the book may be opened to an angle of at least 270 degrees. A front cover B may also be provided with information on the rear face for the audience. Allows the reader and audience to follow the presentation whilst facing each other.

Description

DESCRIPTION
Reading aloud to more than two or three young children or any group where there are illustrations relevant to the text create a difficulty. This is that the picture or diagram cannot be seen simultaneously to the reading of the text, consequently the reader must stop in order to display the illustrations. This not only makes a break in the narrative but it is also time consuming.
The display device in accordance with the present invention solves the problem discussed above by making It possible for the illustrations to be viewed while the text is read. This device is referred to by the inventor as the "KIDSSEETOO" system because of its primary application in the classroom. It is also useful for vintner forms of presuntati,n wlerever it is necessary to display information simultaneously to a presenter and his or her audience. The information displayed to the audience is optionally the same as the information displayed to the presenter. Alternatively it may be an illustration or a summary of the text being
used by the presenter. In the case of a presentation to young children for example, the information displayed to the presenter could be a text of a story, and the information displayed to the children would be the associated pictures.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only making reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a perspective view of an information display device in accordance with the invention.
The information display device shown In the drawing consists of ring bound book in which alternate pages contain information E for a presenter or reader and information A to be displayed to the audience. As shown the Information for the presenter is on the Odd numbered pages while the information for the audience Is con the even numbered pages. The book is bound at the top of e ach page, typically by means of a spiral binder. This allows a presenter k' hold the device open at
any odd numbered page, whereupon the preceding even numbered page hangs down to display its content to the audience.
The page size of the information display device should be appropriate to the distance from which the illustrations may be easily seen. A distance of from 7 to 20 feet (Z to 5 meters) should preferably correspond to a page size about A2 to A3 size. Typically the pages of the device can be A3 size. The information displayed to the presenter suitably would be in letters in the range 3mm to 15 mm high.
This gives letters that are comfortable to read when the device is held almost horizontal at arms length by a person in a standing position with the hinge away from them. The information presented to the audience on the other hand would typically be in letters in excess of 15 mm height, preferable in excess of 25 mm high, optionally in combination with pictures which may occupy the full width of the page. It may consist solely of pictures in appropriate situations. The information is oriented on the page so that the hinge/binding is at top of the page. The display device has a front cover B and a back cover D. The front cover bears typically on it's front face ndica serving to identify the topic of the information contained in the display device. Optionally the inside of the front cover (not shown) can have an item of information for display to the audience. Alternatively the inside of the front cover can contain information identifying the publisher and acknowledgements. Immediately adjacent to the front cover B is the first information sheet F. This has a front face (not shown) and a rear face A. The rear face A carries information to be displayed to the audience. The front face may be a title page to identify the topic dealt with on the information pages. Optionally, if the rear of the front cover carries the first display for the audience/ the front face of the first information page will contain the corresponding text. The next sheet is the second Information sheet G. The second information sheet G has a front face bearing a first item of Information for the presenter, and a rear face (not shown) bearing information for display to the audience. Further sheets H are also
essentially of the same nature as the second information sheet G with the excephon of the very final information page. This final information page will typically carry on its front face the final page of information for the presenter.
The rear face may typically be blank or alternatively contain yet a further page for display to the audience. In that case, the front face of the back cover D would contain the information corresponding for the presenter.
The back cover D is rigid, so as to provide support for the information display device when it is being held by the user, as shown in the drawing. Typically, the back cover may be card of thickness 1 to 3 millimetres, or plywood, metal or a plastics material. The primary purpose of the back cover is to support the binding from which hangs the sheet displaying information to the audience.
Accordingly, a frame strticture would suffice. Aiternallvely tale back cover of the stack of sheets may itself be flexible, but the information presentation device could be used in conjunction with a rigid surface such as a table top which can provide the necessary stiffness to support the information presentation device.
Such an arrangement however, has the disadvantage that the information presentation device would not be self-contained. The incorporation of a stiff back cover D or supporting frame-forming part of the device Itself is therefore preferred. The front and back covers (B. D) and all the intermediate information pages in the embodiment shown In the drawing are bound together by a hinge consisting of a spiral wire binding. The binding holds an upper rnargn of the pages together in such a way that when the device is held open with an odd numbered page facing upwards and generally horizontal the preceding pages can fold back.
The preceding pages nip down behind the hinge. The device typically opens out to an angle of at least 270 measured from the odd numbered page showing information to the presenter, to the page hanging down behind and showing information to the audience. A plastic spiral binding can alternatively be used.
Within the Information display device the information for display to the audience and related information for the user are presented on adjacent facing pages.
Thus, as shown in the drawing, information contained on page E shown open, which is page number 3, is the commentary for the presenter to read out to the audience appropriate to the illustration A contained on page 2. In the described arrangement text for the presenter is contained on odd pages. For each odd page the illustration is contained on the even Page numbered one less than each respective odd page.
The user, when delivering a talk to an audience with the help of the information display device, will hold the device by supporting the back cover and the unread pages. It Is held at a height and angle comfortable for the reader to read facing the audience.
The cover and the first page are flipped over and left to hang vertically to display the illustrated page to the audience A while the text page E resting on the back cover remains in the readers hand ready to be read.
This means the back of the first sheet, A normally page 2, Is the first page displayed to the audience and carries the picture or diagram while the facing page, the odd number page, E which is not visible to the audience has only the text printed on it.
The device continues at the turn of each page to display the next pair of information areas with the Illustrations on the even sides of the pages and the relevant text facing the reader on what is the odd numbered side of each page.
In a further advantageous embodiment the stack of sheets containing Information on a particular theme can be readily detached from the rigid support. This allows for replacement perhaps several times during a king presentation.
