Abstract

A pair of spectacles has side arms 130 and a nose bridge 110 attached to a pair of lenses 120. The inner and outer edges of each lens 120 are provided with a hole 128 and a recess 126. Each side arm 130 has at its end a hook shaped element, the free arm 136 of which is inserted from the front of the lens through the hole 128. The outer limb of the hook 137 locates in the recess 126 in the lens 120 and a fastener 150 is attached from the rear of the lens to the two limbs 126, 128 of the hook so as to secure the side arm 130 to the lens 120. The fastener 150 includes a tubular extension 158 which extends into the hole 128 and surrounds the end of the free limb 136 of the hook. The nose bridge 110 is attached to the lenses 120 in a similar manner.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PRFERR8D ENBODIMENT
( -7 Referring initially to Figuree 1 to 4B of the drewings, shore is shown a pair of apeetaclea 100 embodying the invontlon, which spectacle 100 eomprie a pair of left and right lenaea 120, a bridge 110 intereoneetlug the S lenses 120, and a respective arm 130 eonneetod to each lens 120. Each lens 120 has inner and outer Linda 122 and 124 which are eoneeted to the bridge 110 and the corresponding and 130 reepeetively. Each inner/outer -d 122/124 of Each lens 120 in formed with a generally U O shaped reeeea 126 at ite peripheral edge and a elrcular hole 128 located at a relatively short d4atanee horlsontally inwardly of the reread 126.
Each arm 130 has a main aeetion 132 and much shorter IS front end section 134 for connection to the outer end 124 of tho Corresponding lend 120, and neludee a hinge 140 that eonneeto the two seetione 132 and 134 together. The hluge 140 la formed by a pair of rear and front h$ngod parts 142 and 144 which are Joined to the main section 20 132 and the front end section 134 reapectlvely, such that both main soctiona 132 pro pivotablo close to or away from the lenses 120.
-8 Each of the -ln and front end ectone 132 und 134 ia formed by a rospective motel wire. The wire forming the front and section 134 has a uniform circular croac-
aecton. The rear and of the main Faction 132 sac covered 5 by plastic mteri.1 to form an expanded end 131 for bearing comfortably aganat the hoed of a user.
The front and octlon 134 of each arm 130 is bent an shown to fond a rearardly facing, generally rectangular 10 O-ehaped hook 135 that luclude. a pale of ralatlvely shorter and longer straight limbs 136 and 137 nter-
connectod by a straight link 138, and a crooked tall 139.
Tho two 1mhe 136 and 137 are seperatod apart for generally the came dlatance as the rocoae 126 and bole 15 128 in the outer end 124 of the correpondug lone 120.
Tho tail 139 oxtende at right angles from the longer limb 137 in direction off the shorter Lima 136, and 4e aubeeguntly Jonod to the front pert 144 of the rolovunt hinge 140. Tho shorter lamb 136 is a free lint.
Tho hook 135 i. conatructod to connect, when ueot in conjunction with respective nylon connector 150, the front end section 134 of the.eoc$etod arm 130 to the outer ond 124 of the corrospond$ug lone 120.
( -9 Referencs ie aloo made to Figurec 6A ad 6B, which.how the connector 150. The connector 150 has an elongate flat body 152 formed et its oppoalte ende with pair of 5 circular aperturoa 154 and 156 having the came diameter, and a cylindrical tube 158 integrally formed at one end of the body 152. The tube 15B projects co-axially from the rim portion of the first aperture 154, together sharing the same inner dlmeter. The apertures 154 and 10 156 and the lutorior of the tube 158 have rgnally Smaller diameter than the wire forming the front end aectlon 134 of the associated arm 130. The tube 15ú ha. a length that He generally the same as the thlekneee of the outer end 124 of the corresponding lena 120, and an outer 15 diameter that ia marginally smaller than the diameter of the hole 128 at that ions end 124.
The manner in which each arm 130 la connected to the corroapondlug lane 120 1e now dooeribod. To prepare for 20 eonneetion, the eoneetor 150 is flrat dlaposed onto, with ita second aperture 156 engaging over, tho front end hook 135 of the and 130. In doing so, the connector 150 is peaked from the shorter limb 136 of the hook 135 through the link 138 onto the longer lamb 137, with the
( -10 result that connoctor tube 158 facoa in tho oppoalte direction compared with the shorter limb 136.
For connection, the hook 135 4e engaged with the raceme S 126 and hole 128 at the outer end 124 of the lane 120, by having its shorter Lima 136 inserted fully into th hole 128 from the front aide of the lens 120 while ita longer limb 137 ie laterally engaging "[thin the rooeaa 126. The connector 150 is aubsoguently brought close and turned 10 until ltc tube 158 4 e aligned with the shorter lamb 136 in the hole 12B on the rear aids of the leue 120. To complete the connection, the connector 150 to preened to ineort its tube 158 fully into the hole 128 while fitting over the shorter lath 136 in the bole 128, unt41 the IS connector body 152 and the link 138 lie against the rear and front sidle of the Lana 120 ro. poctvoly.
The tube 158 has loner and outer damotora such that it connocte the ahortor lash 136 on its inaldo and the bole 20 128 on ite outside as a force fit that is suffcontly tight to Gluten the connection. The second aperture 156 fits around the longer link 137 and horde it in the reccoo 126. The Recede 326 4e n-ahep.d ^e mentioned Provo, or cur be made slightly V-shaped, to locate the
( - 1 1 longer limb 137, and is sufficiently deep to accommodate the entire thickness of the 14 my 137.
The connector 150 is -de of nylon material that 4s 5 slightly roalliently deformable, such that the tube 158 can be preae-ineerted into the annular apace between the shorter limp 136 And the hole 128. Also, the connector body 152 can be stretched across and connect the two limbs 136 and 137 on the roar tide of the lone 120. Such 10 features effect a stable concoction.
Reference 4e also made to neuron 5 to 5B Ed 7A to 7C, which show the bridge 110 and a nose pad support 160 welded to behind the bridge 110. The support 160 i.
IS formed by a metal wire, having opposite enda which are bent into roapectivo round hook. 162 for locating corresponding nose pads 164.
The bridge 110 is formed by another motel wire, hiving 20 opposite ends 112, each of which is bunt as shown to form a rearwardly facing, generally rectangular U-ohaped hook 135A. This hook 135A has the acme contructlon and shape so the previous hooks 135 of the erme 130, with equivalent parse designated by the came references 25 suffixed by a letter A-, i.o. a pair of relatively
-12 shorter and longer limbs 136A and 137A inter-connectod by a 14nk 138A.
In addition, this hook 135A is used in the eume manger as 5 described bovo in relation to the hooks 135 for connecting, when used in condunctlon with a corroapondlog said connector 150, the aasoclatod end 112 of the bridge 110 to the Baker end 122 of the corresponding lens 120.
For clarity, the relevant doecrlption of the connection 10 will not be repeated or is ncorporatod by reference.
It Ha underatund that the connoct$on may be employed b-twoen the lenses 120 and either one of, and not neceaserlly both of, the arms 130 and the bridge 110.
The invention has been. given by way of maple only, and various modifications and/or variation to the deacrlbed oent y be made by persons sky lied in the art we shout depart: from the scope of the lnre:tion as 20 apeci fled in the accopanylug claims.
