Abstract
A fence has side rails 2 and extending therebetween boards 3 which are angled, e.g. at 45 to 50 degrees so that sunlight may pass though as shown in Fig 1, but privacy is retained in that lines of sight are blocked as shown in Fig 2.

DESCRIPTION
GARDEN FENCE The invention relates to a garden fence of the type, which may surround a garden, separate one garden from another or different parts of the same garden.
All existing fences fall into two types-solid fence, which creates privacy for people, but at the same time produces shadowy areas in the garden in which plants do not grow wellthis creates a problem for the gardeners with planting in such shadowy areas, especially in the south side of the garden. Or open plan fence (non-solid, transparent) allows sun light access to plants but it lacks privacy.
An object of this invention is to provide for both functions-privacy for people in a garden and availability of sunshine for growing a wider variety of plants next to the fence.
Accordingly, this invention provides a fence including boards fixed to a frame under an angle of about 45-50* degrees with empty spaces between them-this allows sunlight to come through the fence. At the same time the boards overlap, thus creating'blind'areas of the construction, due to which two people being on each side of the fence will not see each other.
Preferably the frame and the boards are made from wood, but it may also be made from other material or combination of materials to match the design of a specific garden.
This invention may be used either as a full section of a fence or as a part of the fence. For example, it can be used in the lower part of the fence Y2 or 1/3 of the whole fence-this will allow planting of the plants right next to the fence-the most problematic shadow area of the garden. In this case, privacy function is even more effective.
This type of fence can be used with any garden fence bases.
Additional benefit of such a fence is its durability over an ordinary fence due to the fact that there is less wind pressure on the fence because of empty spaces between the boards.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1-shows a general view of a section of a fence Figure 2-is a part of a fence section showing how boards are positioned in order to create 'blind'effect for privacy and access for the sunlight.
Figure 3-shows the use of this invention in a combination with an ordinary fence.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
As shown in figure 1, the section of the fence comprises the frame consisting of two horizontal sides (1) (upper and lower) and two vertical sides (2). The horizontal boards (3) are fixed to the vertical sides (2). The boards are parallel to each other and they are turned 45-50* degrees. There are also empty spaces between them to let the sunshine through.
Figure 2 shows the way in which the boards (3) should be fixed to the vertical sides (2) of the frame. The distance (4) between the parallel boards should be no more than half the width of a board (3). This will create'blind'area (5) of the construction in order to achieve privacy. It also shows groove (6), which is at an angle of 45-50* degrees and is made in the vertical side of the frame (2). The boards (3) are fixed into these grooves.
Figure 3 gives an example of how ordinary fence design (7) can be combined with the invention (8) in a single section of a fence.
*-This angle can vary in different geographical regions and is not restricted to 45-50 degrees. For example, the closer the area is to the equator where this fence is used, the bigger this angle will be.
Claims (6)
- CLAIMS GARDEN FENCE 1. Garden fence consisting of sections that include frame and boards that are fixed horizontally to the vertical sides of the frame under the angle between 45-50 degrees with empty spaces between them-this angle can vary in different geographical regions and is not restricted to 45-50 degrees.
- 2. Garden fence as claimed in Claim 1 where the distance between the parallel boards is no more than half the width of such a board.
- 3. Garden fence as claimed in Claim 1 and/or Claim 2 where it is used either as a full fence or as a part or in combination with any other type of the fence.
- 4. Garden fence as claimed in any preceding claim, which is of any size.
- 5. Garden fence as claimed in any proceeding claim, which is made from wood and/or any other material or from a combination of any materials.<Desc/Clms Page number 4>Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1 Garden fence consisting of sections that include frame and boards that are fixed horizontally and parallel, one above the other, to the vertical sides of the frames at an angle between 45 and 50 degrees with spaces between them so as to allow the passage of sunlight through the fence, the arrangement of the boards being such as to provide privacy to people on opposite sides of the fence.2. Garden fence as claimed in claim 1, where the distance between the parallel boards is no more than half the width of such a board.3. Garden fence as claimed in claim I and/or claim 2 where the angled boards occupy substantially the full height of the fence.4 Garden fence as claimed in claim I and/or claim 2 where the angled boards occupy part of the height of the fence, and the remainder of the height is any other type of fence 5. Garden fence as claimed in any preceding claim which is made from wood and/or any other material or from a combination of any materials.
- 6. A modification of the fence of any preceding claim where the said angle differs from 45 to 50 degrees to allow the passage of sunlight in different geographical locations.
