Abstract

238,359. Forward Radiator Co., Ltd., Rawsthorne, C. N., and Uncles, T. July 28, 1924. Multiple bolt fastenings; sliding bolts; locks, squarekey.-A double-door fastening of the kind wherein a spindle actuates a pair of vertical bolts and a horizontal bolt, is constructed so that the initial rotation of the spindle operates the horizontal bolt and further rotation operates the vertical bolts so that one door can be opened while the other remains secured. The operating spindle 6 is turned by a square key and has three cranks 8 with two opposed studs 9 which work in slots 16 in the vertical bolts 13. A stud 25 works in a broad-arrow-shaped slot 22 in the horizontal bolt and also co-operates with holes 26, 27, 28 in the casing. Figs. 1 and 3 show the bolts shot. To withdraw them the spindle 6 is first pushed inwards against a blade spring 10 to free the stud 25 from the hole 28, and turned. The stud 25 engages the inclined side of the slot 24 in the bolt 19 and withdraws it. If the key is then removed, the spring 10 forces the stud 25 into the hole 27 of the casing so that the bolts are locked in the position in which the horizontal bolt is withdrawn, allowing one door to open and the vertical bolts are shot, securing the other door. Further turning of the spindle past this point causes the studs 9 to withdraw the bolts 13, the stud 25 entering the hole 26 to secure all the bolts in the withdrawn position. The bolt 19 has flanges 20 to limit its degree of protrusion.
