Abstract

A system for limiting vehicle speed uses transmissions from roadside emitters to pass local speed limit data, through a receiver, into an onboard comparator. Should the vehicles speed be in excess of the received limit then brakes are automatically applied, slowing the vehicle, until compliance. A speed limit display drawing data from the same transmissions could be provided for the driver.

Statutory Speed Controller for Road Vehicles ApplicationThis invention of a Statutory Speed Controller can be applied to all forms of Road Vehicles, including, motor cars, lorries, vans and caravanettes, and is applicable to any roadway.
Existing ProblemThis invention resolves the current problem that is inherent in all existing roads vehicles, in that they are dependent on the driver of the vehicle complying with the displayed statutory road speed requirements Purpose of the InventionAccording to the present invention, there is provided a Statutory Speed Controller that is comprised of a Signal receiver, a Revolution Counter, a Comparator Unit, an Auto Brake Unit and a Statutory Road Speed indicator. The invention is fitted into any Road Vehicle and the invention is activated by an external roadside emitter signal that conveys the required maximum statutory vehicle speed, to the Statutory Speed Controller
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Description of the Invention- Referring to the drawing numbered 01, the Statutory Speed Controller comprises of a system of units fitted into all Road Vehicles that is actuated by an external signal The system is comprised of- 1) A roadside signal emitter placed at the start and end of each statutory speed limit There will be 7 ranges of emitters. Each one providing a separate signal from 10 to 70 miles per hour Within the Road Vehicle- 2) A Signal Receiver will convert the external signal emitter range into a'revolutions' value 3) A Revolution Counter will monitor the speed of the vehicle drive shaft.
4) A Comparator unit will compare the vehicle drive shaft speed with the converted external roadside signal An An Automatic brake unit will respond to the Comparator unit when the vehicle speed is in excess of the Statutory Road Speed Hence the road vehicle will be automatically kept within the statutory limit An indicator will display the required Statutory Road Speed to the driver of the vehicle

Claims (1)

  1. Claims i-The Statutory Speed Controller for Road Vehicles comprises of a roadside emitter that signals the required maximum road speed to the vehicle 2-This signal is registered by a receiver within the vehicle that converts the value into RPM This value is passed to a Comparator Unit within the vehicle.
    3 - A Revolution Counter within the vehicle registers the speed of the vehicle drive shaft This value is also passed to the same Comparator Unit as in 2 4-The Comparator Unit referred to in 2 and 3 compares the two RMP signals When the drive shaft RMP (3) is in excess of the converted roadside emitter speed (1), a signal is passed to the Auto Brake Unit (5).
    :'- When the Auto Brake Unit is activated by the Comparator Unit (4) the vehicle brakes are applied until the vehicle drive shaft speed falls below that of the Statutory Road Speed signal (1). At this point the vehicle brakes are released.
    6-The driver of the vehicle is informed of the maximum allowed speed by an indicator
