Dry processes of extracting metals; distilling.- Metals are extracted, melted, or volatilized in .gas-producer of the kind described in Specification 229,331, which is charged at the top with lump fuel, and finely-powdered fuel is injected at the tuyeres. Metallic compounds and fluxes may be admixed with the fuel at the top of the shaft o injected at the tuyeres. The air blast, which may be preheated, and enriched with or replace( by oxygen, is supplied through a ring of tuyÞres 7 situated below a second ring 9 for the supply of powdered fuel etc.; and steam, or carbon dioxide &c. may the injected through a third ring of tuyÞres 12.
