CHUCK FOR USE ON A WORKBENCH
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a chuck for use on a workbench, more particularly, a chuck that comprises a multiple of holding surfaces with different groove designs able to hold working objects with different diameters or shapes; extending from the chuck is an aligning post with a protruding portion installed thereon, so that the chuck is to be steadfastly fixed on the surface of the workbench.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART An example of the chuck for use on a workbench can be found in UK ND2009275, wherein, with the disclosure of a chuck having sides of front, rear, left, right, top and bottom, the left, right and the top sides are installed with the same V-shaped grooves; a multiple of nodes on the surface of the front side are installed ; there is no specific designs on the surface of the rear side; an aligning post, installed with a pair of recesses, extends from the surface of the bottom side.
The recesses installed in the aligning post of the chuck enable the aligning post to be set by being deformed and tightened in round holes that, with their diameters smaller than that of the aligning post, are installed on the surface of the workbench, so that the chuck is to be fixed on the surface of the workbench.
A multiple of round holes are installed on the surface of the workbench, so that at least a pair of the chucks or more can be fixed on the workbench according to different lengths, widths or thicknesses of the working objects, and through the V-shaped grooves of a pair of chucks facing each other or a multiple of nodes on the surface of the front, left, right or top sides of the chucks (the horizontality of two workbenches can be adjusted to vertically facing each other, thus the top sides of the chucks are being used), the
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
working objects are to be held.
However, the V-shaped grooves on the surface of the chuck disclosed in UK ND2009275 are of single-size design, thus unable to hold working objects with cross sections being spherical, or those with large-sizes being rectangular, square or spherical. As a result, limited holding function and application are the main drawbacks of the prior art.
Furthermore, UK ND2009275 of the prior art discloses a pair of recesses in the aligning post for the purpose of absorbing the deformation force, so as for the aligning post to be tightly fixed in one of the round holes on the surface of the workbench, a circumstance that needs tremendous force for the user to inconveniently try to fix the chuck into the holes ; thus it is another drawback of the prior art.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The primary object of the present invention is to provide a chuck with a multiple of surfaces having grooves of different designs to hold working objects with different diameters or shapes; therefore the present invention can be widely used with excellent functions.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a chuck with at least one of the holding surfaces (e. g. , rear holding surface) having two grooves perpendicularly crossing each other to hold working objects with different diameters or shapes.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a chuck with an aligning post having a protruding portion (e. g. , a screw thread portion), so that the aligning post can be screwed into holes on the surface of the workbench to fix the chuck on the surface of the workbench easily and effortlessly.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with regard to the following description, appended claims and accompanying drawings, which are intended to explain, not to restrict or reduce, where:

with another set of grooves on the rear holding surfaces.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS A chuck 1 of the present invention, as shown in Fig 1 to Fig 6, mainly includes a holding unit 10 and an aligning post 30; the holding unit 10 comprises a front holding surface 11, a rear holding surface 13, a left holding surface 15, a right holding surface 17, a top holding surface 19 and a bottom holding surface 21, wherein different shapes of grooves are installed respectively on the rear holding surface 13, the left holding surface 15, the right holding surface 17 and the top holding surface 19.
More specifically, Fig. 5, a top plan view of the chuck 1, shows a maximized V-shaped groove 14 on the rear holding surface 13; Fig. 3 and Fig. 4, two side views of the chuck 1, then show a secondary-maximized V-shaped groove 22; the two grooves 14 and 22 perpendicularly cross each other, a design that, providing the holding surface 13 with two grooves, gives the present invention more grooves for holding working objects than those of the foregoing prior art.
The groove 16 installed on the left holding surface 15 is of medium-sized V-shaped groove ; the groove 18 installed on the right holding surface 17 is of small-sized V-shaped groove; the groove 20 installed on the top holding surface 19 is of maximized arc-shaped groove. A multiple of nodes 12, same as those in the prior art, are installed on the front holding surface 11. An aligning post 30, with its surface installed with a protruding portion 31 (e. g. , a screw thread portion), extends downward from the bottom holding surface 21.
The workbench whereon the present invention applies is the same as that in the prior art. As shown in Fig. 7 to Fig. 12, the chuck 1, through the protruding portion 31 installed on the surface of the aligning post 30, can be screwed into a round hole 41 on the surface of the workbench 40 (the female thread can be either installed in the round hole 41 or not), thus the chuck is to be effortlessly fixed on the surface of the workbench 40.
Fig. 7 to Fig. 12 show the embodiments of the present invention regarding the working objects being held by grooves installed on each holding surface; Fig.
7 shows the embodiment that a pair of chucks 1 of the present invention hold a working object 70 by a multiple of nodes 12 on the surface of the front
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
holding surfaces 11; Fig. 8A shows the embodiment that a working object 71 can be placed directly on the groove 20 of the top holding surface 19 of the chuck 1, thus the user can directly work on (e. g. , cut) the working object 71 on top of the chuck 1 with one hand holding the working object 71 and the other hand holding a tool. Fig. 8B and 8C then show respectively the embodiments that a pair of chucks 1, with the grooves 20 on the top holding surface 19, hold working objects 72 and 73 having different diameters. Fig. 9 shows an embodiment of the present invention that a pair of chucks 1, with the grooves 18 on the right holding surfaces 17, hold a working object 74.
Fig. 10 shows an embodiment of the present invention that a pair of chucks 1, with the grooves 16 on the left holding surfaces 15, hold a working object 75.
Fig. 11 shows an embodiment of the present invention that a pair of chucks 1, with the grooves 22 on the rear holding surfaces 13, hold a working object 76.
Fig. 12 shows an embodiment of the present invention that a pair of chucks 1, with the other grooves 14 on the rear holding surfaces 13, hold a working object 77. The foregoing working objects held by each groove shall not be limited to shapes, sizes or cross section areas depicted in the drawings; different working objects can be held by suitable grooves with different designs.
Although the present invention has been described in considerable detail with reference to certain preferred embodiments thereof, those skilled in the art can easily understand that all kinds of alterations and changes can be made within the spirit and scope of the appended claims. For example, shapes of the grooves can have various designs; thus the shapes of the grooves are not to be limited by the present invention. In addition, the holding surfaces other than the rear holding surfaces can also be installed with perpendicularly crossed grooves; the chuck, besides what the present invention discloses as a hollow unit, can also be designed as a solid unit. Therefore, the spirit and scope of the appended claims should not be limited to the description of the preferred embodiments contained herein.
