Abstract
An exercise device for feet and legs comprises a frame which may replace the foot rest under a seat in a vehicle. The frame pivots at a point under the seat to allow the foot rest to be pressed down, resistance being provided by springs or hydraulic devices, which return the foot rest to its rest position. The foot rest may also pivot on the frame, allowing the user to rotate the ankle. The exercise is intended to stimulate blood flow in the lower limbs while seated: in particular the device may be used to reduce the likelihood of Deep Vein Thrombosis on aircraft.

Description
E-Combat The invention is an in flight leg, ankle & feet (lower body) workout.
The workout would help reduce the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (Economy Class Syndrome) on long haul flights.
This would be achieved by replacing or adapting the aircraft under seat footrests enabling the passenger to perform two low resistance type exercises that would work the legs, ankles & feet during flight thus stimulating blood circulation in the lower body while seated.
Preferably the system is made of plastics, rubber and metal materials or similar materials dependant of"Airline safety Guidelines"governing all on board materials.
FIGURE. 1 & laShow the introduction of a rubber or plastic footpad on the footrest.
FIGURE. 2Show the addition of a spring or hydraulic powered base pivot point for the footrest.
As shown in Figure 7 la the addition of the spring or hydraulic powered pivoting footpad (4) allows for rotary (R) movement of the pad exercising ankles & feet.
Figure 2 shows the addition of a base pivot point (PT) enables vertical (V) movement of the foot rest (5) exercising the legs.
The spring or hydraulic powered low resistance pivot points (P & PT) must be set at a given force allowing variable number of repetitions in both Figure's 1 & 2 enabling the most active or inactive of passengers to comfortably achieve a sufficient workout at their own pace.
The passenger seat may have to be in the upright position to support back and shoulders whilst exercising.
The above exercises in addition to the existing self-motivated shoulder/arm lifting & neck rolling exercises would give the passenger a comprehensive body workout from their seat.
Claims (7)
- CLAIMS : 1. An in flight exercise system achieved by replacing or adapting the aircraft under seat footrest.
- 2. A system as claimed in claim 1 where the introduction of a low resistance pivoting foot pad & pivoting foot rest point enable the passenger to work legs, feet & ankles from a seated position during Flight.
- 3. A system as claimed in claim 1 & 2 where pivot point resistance is achieved by a spring or hydraulic type mechanism.
- 4. A system as claimed in claim 3 Where the low resistance pivot points allow the user to move their legs vertically by pushing down on the rest and enables rotary movement of the pad for an ankle and foot movement.
- 5. A system as claimed in any preceding claim with a resistance enough to allow the footrest and footpad to return to their original positions for further repetitions.
- 6. A system as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from metals, plastics or rubber material or from a combination of these materials.
- 7. A system substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
