Abstract

An infant's seat comprises two sidepieces 1, 2 and a seat 3 with a backrest 4. The seat and backrest assembly guidedly tilts between the two sidepieces, locking means being attached to the backrest to stabilise the different positions of the seat. The seat has protrusions 13 on it's lateral edges which slide within their respective arcuate slots 14 on the inner faces of the sidepieces. The locking means comprises a shank 15 projecting from each of the lateral edges of the backrest and being resiliently biassed by spring (16 fig 4) to selectively snap into one several pairs of pockets 17 in the inner faces of the sidepieces. The locking means has a rotary control 18 fitted the back face of the backrest linked to the shanks by cables 20, 21 attached to diametrically opposed points (22, 23 fig 4) of the control.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
An infant seat This infant seat is of the type comprising two sidepieces incorporating the legs, the seat proper and a backrest.
The object of this invention is to form with the seat proper and the backrest an assembly being apt to tilt between the two sidepieces thereby adopting different inclined positions that can be stabilised.
For such a purpose the seat proper and the backrest are angularly attached to each other and have their lateral edges provided with protrusions being guidedly slidable within arcuate slots of the inner face of the sidepieces.
The different positions of the seat-and-backrest assembly are stabilised through locking means comprising a respective shank projecting from each of the lateral edges of the backrest, said shanks being resiliently biased to thus selectively snap into one of several pockets being provided in the inner face of both sidepieces of the infant seat. These locking means comprise a control being rotatably fitted to the back face of the backrest, said control being linked to said shanks through respective cables being connected to diametrically opposed points of said control.
Although the general construction of this infant seat can be any one, the infant seat will preferably have the construction having been foreseen in Utility Model no. 9602264 of this same Applicant, the components of the infant seat being formed by pieces of blow-moulded plastics material being removably attached to each other by means of screws and nuts.
These and other characteristics will be best made apparent by the following detailed description whose understanding will be made easier by the accompanying two
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
sheets of drawings showing a practical embodiment cited only by way of example not limiting the scope of the present invention.
In the drawings: Fig. 1 illustrates in a perspective view from the back the infant seat being the object of the invention; Fig. 2 shows in a side elevation said infant seat with the seat-and-backrest assembly in an inclined position; Fig. 3 is an exploded, perspective view of the infant seat in question; and Fig. 4 shows in a sectional elevation the detail of the locking means being provided to stabilise the positions of the seat-and-backrest assembly.
According to the drawings the infant seat comprises two sidepieces 1 and 2 incorporating the legs l'and 2', a seat proper 3 and a backrest 4 being fitted between said sidepieces, a tray (not shown) being fitted to these latter, and two crosspieces 5 and 6.
The pieces are all made of blow-moulded plastics material, and the crosspieces are attached to the sidepieces by means of screws 7 and nuts 8, the seat proper 3 being also attached in this same manner to the backrest 4.
The screws 7 are formed by threaded studs forming integral part of the crosspieces and the seat proper 3, and the nuts 8 are blind and have a transversally slotted head 9, said nuts being thus apt to be driven by means of an appropriate tool such as a screwdriver or even a coin.
The head of said blind nuts fits into the stepped opening being provided in the transversal orifices 10 of the sidepieces and of the backrest, said screws 7 and nuts 8 being threadingly engaged to each other in said orifices.
Near the top edge each of the sidepieces 1 and 2 has an outer longitudinal slot 11 and an inner longitudinal

slot 12 allowing to fit the tray (not shown) in different positions.
The seat-and-backrest assembly 3-4 guidedly tilts between the two sidepieces 1 and 2, its lateral edges being for such a purpose provided with protrusions 13 (Fig. 3) being guidedly slidable within respective arcuate slots 14 of the inner face of said sidepieces.
By so tilting the seat-and-backrest assembly can adopt different inclined positions that are stabilised through locking means comprising a respective shank 15 (Fig. 4) projecting from each of the lateral edges of the backrest 4, said shanks being resiliently biased by respective springs 16 to thus selectively snap into one of several pockets 17 being provided in an arcuately lined up arrangement in the inner face of both sidepieces 1 and 2 of the infant seat.
Said locking means comprise a discoidal control 18 being rotatably fitted by means of a screw pin 19 to the back face of the backrest 4, said control being linked to said shanks 15 through respective cables 20 and 21 being connected to respective diametrically opposed points 22 and 23 of said control.
Both the backrest 4 and the seat proper 3 are respectively provided with the slits 25 allowing to install a safety belt, and with the slit 26 allowing to install a crotch strap, said slits having all been formed in the respective moulded piece itself.
The infant seat can be completed with a soft cover being arranged on the backrest 4 and attached to a cushion being arranged on the seat proper 3, and said infant seat can be used as such and with no attachments, or else it can be fitted to a separate base to thus be used as a highchair.
