Abstract

A nail clipping aid comprises a control column to which is attached or integrated, at housing X, a nail clipper N. A lever L at the remote end of the column operates the cutter by way of rod R. Rest S provides stability and support. The device may include a motor and batteries, be foot-operated, be adjustable by way of one or more hinges, joints or extensions and/or include a clippings collection compartment.

Description

CLIPPER AID DEVICE In order to clip the toenails, it becomes necessary to bend over in order to reach them.

This is not always easy to do, and is impossible for some for a variety of reasons, for example a person suffering with a back injury. There is therefore the need for a device that makes this task easier.

The device comprises a control column or other means of providing a long/far reach, to which is attached at one end or to the side a handle or* other means of handling the device, and at the other end or some other point is situated a means for holding a nail clipper securely. By operating controls in the column or the handle, it becomes possible to operate the clipper, and the device may be provided with the clipper element integrally incorporated into the device. A storage compartment may for the collection of clippings, and/or a rest or other means of support may also be optionally provided.

The device may be provided in a variety of materials, e. g. plastics, metals, etc.

A specific embodiment of the device will now be described by way of example with reference to :- Figure 1 shows an example of the device with a non-integral clipper N The device comprises a housing X into which the clipper is secured and contained, which is connected via control column C to the handle H. the rod ; *contains a element R which is controlled by lever L, and which in turn controls the operation of the nail clipper N. extra stability and support are provided by the rest S.

The device may be provided in one or two-handed forms, for use with fingernails and/or toenails, or may be provided in a foot controlled form.

Additional means may also be provided in order to make control easier and require less force, for example the addition of a motor.

The device may also be provided so it can be adjusted for the operator's comfort, and may also be provided with one or more hinges, joints or other adjustable components.

Similar devices can be provided for use with fingernails, for example for those people, with reduced physical ability. Sometimes they cannot bend their wrists, or hold a small clipper, or be able to exert enough pressure on the clipper.

The device may also be provided with one or more additional means of increasing stability, for example a rest. It may also be provided with a power source in order to improve ease of use and to reduce degree of effort required to operate it.

Claims

CLAIMS 1) A means by which the clipper is securely attached, reversibly incorporated, and/or integrated in the device, an optional handle or other means of holding the device, and an optional control column or other means of achieving a long reach connecting the two, where optionally the handle and/or means of holding the clipper are incorporated or integrated into the column, and where the handle and/or column both contain or support the method and control mechanism for activating and using the clipper, the whole being optionally adjustable as required by the operator.
2) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the clipper may be incorporated into the device.
3) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the device may be provided with a means of collecting and storing the clippings, and where it might be adapted or provided in a form suitable for fingernails.
4) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the device may come in one and/or two-handed forms.
5) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein a means may be provided where pressing the clipper may be assisted, optionally with a motor, thereby requiring less effort for use.
6) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the device may be provided as foot activated.
7) A device as claimed in any preceding claim herein wherein the device may come with a rest or other means of support.
8) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the device is provided with one or more hinges, joints, extensions, or other means of adjusting the device.
9) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein it may be made of one or more materials, for example metal, plastics, etc.
10) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein it may be provided with a power source (e. g. batteries) in order to improve ease of use and to reduce degree of effort required in its operation.
11) A device substantially as described herein.
