Abstract

A device for doing up buttons has a forked hook H for placing behind a button B and located at one end of an elongate member X, the other end of which carries a head P which is passed through the buttonhole. The device may have a second integral or detachable head which provides a larger grip. It is stated there may be a power source to assist usage.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
BUTTON DEVICE (Russell Sullman 27/04/2001) Doing up buttons is a straightforward everyday task that is taken for granted, but it is not always so for everyone. For example, a reduction in physical ability, this task can cause this to become very difficult. There is therefore the need for a device that can assist in this task.
The device comprises a component that releasably secures the button to be done up, and a grip or other means by which the device may be easily handled and directed to pass through the buttonhole as required. The two may cpme as separate components, or may be supplied as one integral part.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example I which :- Figure 1 shows an example of the device Figure 2 shows the device in cross section, when engaged with a button.
A device as seen in figure I comprises a hook H, the two elements of which are used to slide in behind a button securely, and to accommodate that element of the button that binds it to the cloth or other material. The rounded head P of the device is connected to H by X, and provides a useful element for holding and guiding the device. The parameters of the device are such that it can be passed through the buttonhole in its entirety.
Figure 2 illustrates the device the device in cross-section, where the hook is engaged with the button B, the hook with the captive button B being guided, with the aid of H and X, through the button-hole as required. Once the button has been done up, the device can be removed.
All or part of the device may be detachable for remaining in position once the button has been done up, either to improve ease of use, or for other uses.
The device may be provided with a second, integral, detachable, or non-integral, means of holding and guiding the button through the buttonhole, where a larger grip is needed. It may also be provided with a power source to improve ease of use, and reduce degree of effort required in its operation.
For example, the head P of a device similar to that described in figure I may be guided through the button hole first, and when through, a larger grip may be attached to the head, to give the device greater leverage, assisting in the button being done up.

Claims (7)

  1. CLAIMS 1) A button device comprising a means by which the button may be gripped or otherwise releasably secured. with a means of gripping or other means of holding. guiding and directing the device and captive button through the button-hole as required.
  2. 2) A device as claimed in an) preceding claim in which the device may be made of one or more materials. for example, plastic, etc.
  3. 3) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein it might be provided with a power source to improve ease of use and to reduce amount of effort required to operate.
  4. 4) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the device may be provided in a form where the device engages with an integral, designed complementary part of the button, and part of the device may be detachable, to remain with the button after doing up. for some additional purpose, for example as a support or holder for something else. a means of lock. etc.
  5. 5) A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the device may be adjustable, for example in length. size. etc.
  6. 6) A device as claimed in preceding claim wherein a second component may be attached to the device to improve the ease of use of the device. for example a detachable handle that grips that part of the device already through the buttonhole. and which improves the grip available as well as increasing leverage.
  7. 7) A device substantial !) as described herein.
