Abstract

237,312. Douglas & Grant, Ltd., (Bunse, F.). Feb. 22, 1924. Separating by rotary pitted cylinders. - In grain or seed separators of the kind described in Specification 196,936 the stationary obstruction mounted adjacent the rising side of the cylinder consists of a number of depending blades, teeth or walls i attached to a plate i on the upper surface of which preferably are secured a number of guides k which act to feed the grain from one end of the drum to the other. The guides k are pivoted to the plate at l and their inclination is adjusted by a bar m and screw n. The obstruction member is adjustably mounted by handles q on the plate secured in slots in the frame, and carries a tray p near the discharge end to return seeds that have failed to reach the conveyer back to the machine. A second tray v for leading the small seeds and impurities to the usual discharge conveyer 2 is mounted on a pivoted bar w which is adjusted by a crank arm and locking device. The drum is driven by a countershaft c with a friction wheel at one end and is supported by rollers g carried by the shaft c and an idle shaft c<1>. In a modification, two or more drums with cells of graded size are arranged in series, the seeds discharged from the conveyer 2 in one drum being delivered to the drum next in the series.
