Abstract
237,216. Macdonald, A. July 18, 1924, [Convention date]. Luggage holders.-Relates to luggage-carrying devices of the kind associated with the running- board of a motor-vehicle and formed b hinging to the outer edge of a lower or main board 2, Figs. 3 and 6, an upper or auxiliary member or board 1 which can either be flat on the board 2 or be maintained in a vertical position so as to constitute with the lower board 2 and side 15 of the vehicle a space for receiving luggage. For supporting the auxiliary board its operative position, stay rcds 10, hinged to and normally housed in recesses 8 in the board 1, are extended across the luggage space and their free ends 12, Fig. 4, engaged within recesses 13, which are arranged in clasps 14 on the vehicle sides and are fitted with retaining springs 16. An expansible screen 23 carried by a support 25 is preferably arranged at the front and. if desired, the rear end of the luggage space, being secured in its extended position by a hook 26 engaging an eye 22 on the board 1. Catches 19 locked by wing-nuts 20 serve to secure the boards in the folded condition, when they constitute a single foot-board with a level upper surface.
