Abstract
An extensible pipe comprises at least two parts 1,2 which slide axially one inside the other, in which the outer pipe 2 has a ring-shaped recess 7 at one end which narrows its inner diameter, and the inner pipe 1 has an outer diameter equal to the inner diameter of the said recess, and includes an enlargement 8 at one end whose diameter is larger than the inner diameter of the recess and smaller than the inner diameter of the outer pipe. This results in an extensible pipe which offers greater safety because the two pipes cannot pull apart. The extensible pipe is particularly useful for discharging fumes from boilers.
Description
EXTENSIBLE PIPE WITH END LOCKING SYSTEM FOR BOILERS AND THE LIKE This invention relates to an extensible pipe, designed in particular for discharging fumes from boilers and the like, of the type constituted by two parts which slide axially one inside the other, in which the external part of the pipe presents a ring-shaped recess at one end which narrows the inner diameter of the pipe, and the internal part of the pipe has an outer diameter equal to the inner diameter of the said recess, and presents a enlargement at one end whose diameter is larger than the inner diameter of the recess and smaller than the inner diameter of the outer pipe.
This special design of the parts produces an extensible pipe which offers greater safety because the two pipes cannot pull apart, thus ensuring that all fumes are discharged to the exterior.
The invention falls into the sector of accessories for boilers, in particular boilers designed for heating and production of hot water for bathrooms.
A pipe that conveys the fumes outside the building is connected to a union fitted at the outlet of these boilers.
In various cases these pipes consists of two parts inserted one inside the other which slide axially, one of these parts generally being fitted with supports which enable it to be anchored and fixed to pipes with a larger diameter to form coaxial flues.
The pipe is inserted in a hole in the wall, secured, and then extended so that one end can be inserted into the union on the boiler.
In general, these pipes are not provided with locking systems that limit
their extension, so there is a risk that they may pull apart, thus allowing burnt gas to be released into the premises without the operator's noticing, with all the resulting risks.
It would be preferable to fit devices which prevent this problem and allow the boiler to operate in total safety, thus eliminating the possible risks caused by lack of precision during assembly.
This problem is now solved by the present invention, which relates to an extensible pipe for boilers and the like, fitted with a system which locks the end of the pipe into position so that it cannot become detached when the pipe is in the position of maximum extension.
This purpose is achieved by shaping the two sliding parts of the pipe in such a way that the external part presents an internal ring-shaped recess close to one end, while the internal part of the pipe, which slides into the said ring-shaped recess, presents an enlargement at the end which engages with the said ring-shaped recess when the pipe is in the extended position, thus acting as a mechanical end stop.
This invention will now be described in detail, by way of example but not of limitation, with particular reference to the annexed figures, in which: * figure 1 shows the longitudinal section of an extensible pipe in accordance with the invention, in the fully closed position * figure 2 shows the longitudinal section of a pipe in accordance with the invention, in the fully extended position * figure 2A shows an enlarged detail of figure 2, again in cross-section 'figure 3 shows a cross-section of the outer part of an extensible pipe in accordance with the invention
figures 4 and 5 show an extensible pipe in accordance with the invention, again in longitudinal section, in the minimum and maximum extension positions respectively, in the configuration in which the said extensible pipe is inserted into a coaxial pipe of larger diameter.
With reference to figures 1 to 3, the extensible pipe in accordance with the invention comprises two parts, indicated as 1 and 2 respectively, one of which slides inside the other.
Inner pipe 1 presents a union 3 at the free end for connection to the outlet of a boiler.
Both pipes, namely inner pipe 1 and outer pipe 2, can be provided with supports such as collars 4 or the like so that they can be fitted, for example, inside a coaxial flue 5, as shown in figures 4 and 5.
As mentioned, pipe 1 slides axially inside pipe 2 which, near one end 6, is shaped to form a ring-shaped recess 7 (see detail in figure 2A) that narrows the inner diameter of the pipe.
The outer diameter of inner pipe 1 is equal to the inner diameter of ringshaped recess 7 along the whole length of pipe 1, with the exception of terminal section 8, at which pipe 1 is enlarged until its outer diameter is equal to the inner diameter of pipe 2.
In addition to recess 7, there is a ring-shaped seating 10 at the end of pipe 2 designed to house a seal such as an 0-ring, indicated as 9, which provides a perfect seal between the sliding elements along their entire length.
In the configuration illustrated, pipe 1 can slide freely inside pipe 2, thus forming a telescopic assembly. However, when pipe 2 is in the fully
extended position, the terminal section of pipe 1 with enlargement 8 comes to a stop against ring-shaped recess 7, which prevents it from sliding further, and thus prevents pipe 1 from being pulled out of pipe 2.
The pipe is therefore very simple to use.
It is sufficient to insert end A of the telescopic coaxial pipe (fig. 4) into the wall, then extend the other end B until coupling 3 can be inserted into the corresponding coupling on the boiler.
If the maximum extension of the assembly is reached, the locking system prevents pipe 1 from being accidentally pulled apart from pipe 2, thus eliminating the risk that discharged fumes may leak into the environment.
The extensible pipe in accordance with the invention, which presents the advantage of not containing holes, can easily be manufactured by techniques commonly employed in the industry, from metal or other suitable materials.
The sizes and materials used could obviously vary, depending on practical requirements.
