Abstract
A flood prevention barrier comprises a plurality of vertical panels fixed with bolts to a plurality of vertical stakes driven into the ground, where the ends of adjacent panels are overlapped. Rubber or foam strips may be sandwiched between the overlapping sections of adjacent panels to provide a watertight seal. The base of each panel may be provided with a flange, through which steel fixing pins may be driven into the ground. A thick foam strip may be provided between the flange and the ground to ensure the barrier is watertight.
Description
Flood Protection Barrier
Description
Invention JB of 22/1/2001 relates to a sectional semi-permanent flood barrier (in two designs) to replace sandbagging.
Design A (Fig 1 a b c dl This design is driven into soft soils alongside river banks and around houses etc.
Design 2abcde This design locks down on to paved areas. It has a foam (or similar) seal below the flange at the base of each section.
Both designs will provide quick, reliable, semi-permanent flood protection for houses, business premises, roads, railways etc.
After erection (and when not actually protecting against flood water) random sections of both designs can be disconnected in order to provide access for pedestrians and vehicles.
The disconnected sections woud be reconnected when flood warnings are given.
Claims (5)
- Flood Protection Barrier Claims 1. Invention JB of 22/1/2001 will be of considerable benefit to property owners suffering from flooding. It is conspicuous by its absence throughout the United Kingdom.
- 2. Compared with slow and laborious sand bag filling, this invention provides quick and simple semi-permanent flood protection.
- 3. This invention is intended to remain in situe in areas where flooding re-occurs.
- 4. Insurance companies should take this invention into consideration for policy holders suffering flooding problems.
- 5. The invention can also be used to create water storage pens with the use of a waterproof base liner.
