The toilet seat lid 10 (40) is provided in the outer surface with a plurality of bamboo fiber grains 15,16,17(45,46,47), which are dit"ferent in density or orientation from one another.
The two toilet seats 20 and 50 of the first and the second preferred embodiments of the present invention are formed of oval seat bodies 21 and 5 1, which are made of bamboo stems and are respectively corresponding in shape to the toilet seat lids 10 and 40. The oval seat body 21 (5 1) is provided at one end thereof with a straight side 22 (52), and in the center thereof with a through hole 23(53) corresponding to the top opening of a toilet bowl. The seat body 21 (5 1) is provided along the outer edge thereof with an inverted angular edge portion 24 (25). Similarly, the through hole 23 (53) is provided along the outer edge thereof with an inverted angular edge portion 54 (55). The straight side 22 (52) is provided with two pivoting holes 26 (56) for pivoting the seat body 21 (5 1) with the toilet seat lid 10 (40) by two pivots (not shown in the drawings). The toilet seat 20 (50) is provided in the outer surface with a plurality of bamboo fiber grains 27, 28,29 (57, 58, 59), which are different in density or orientation from one another.
The bamboo toilet seat lid 10 (40) and the bamboo toilet seat 20 4 (50) of the present invention are provided with an elastic pad 30 capable of absorbing shock. The pad 30 is intended to prevent the impact noise which is apt to bring about at the time when the toilet seat 20 (50) is impacted on by the toilet seat lid 10 (40).
The processes for making the bamboo toilet seat lids 10 and 40, and the bamboo toilet seats 20 and 50 of the present invention are described hereinafter.
As illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 7, a bamboo stem I of a predetermined length is sliced along the longitudinal direction of the bamboo stem I into a plurality of stem strips 2, with each containing the inner portion " a " of the bamboo stem and the outer portion " b " of the bamboo stem. The outer portion " b " is greater in fiber density and rigidity than the inner portion " a Each of the stem strips 2 is slightly arcuate in its cross. The arcuate portions of each stem strip 2 are trimmed off, thereby resulting in the transformation of the stem strip 2 into a unit body 3 having a rectangular cross section. The unity bodies 3 are then cooked for two hours in an airtight vessel containing hydrogen peroxide, so as to soften the bamboo fibers of the unit bodies 3 for enhancing the toughness of the unit bodies 3. The unit bodies 3 are removed from the vessel and are then dried by baking. Thereafter, the unit bodies 3 are polished to become bamboo plates 4, which are coated by two rollers on both upper and lower surfaces thereof with an adhesive layer 5. A laminated bamboo body 6 is formed of a plurality of the bamboo plates 4 and 4'. The laminated bamboo body 6 has a predetermined thickness. The laminated bamboo body 6 is used to make a toilet seat lid semifinished product 8, as shown in FIG. 4A, and a toilet seat semifinished product 9, as shown in FIG. 4B. the toilet seat lid semifinished product 8 is provided in one end thereof with a straight side, and along the outer edge thereof with an inverted angular edge portion. The toilet seat semifinished product 9 is provided in the center with a through hole, and in one end with a straight side. The toilet seat semifinished product and the through hole are provided in the periphery thereof with an inverted angular edge portion.
The semifinished products 8 and 9 are so polished that they have a smooth surface before they are provided with a color coating or a waterproof coating. Finally, the semifinished products 8 and 9 are provided with the elastic pad 30 before they are pivoted together.
The formation of the laminated bamboo body 6 by a plurality of the bamboo plates 4 and 4' is attained by various ways. As shown in FIG. 3, the laminated bamboo body 6 has a thickness " h " corresponding to the thickness " w " of the toilet seat lid 10 and the toilet seat 20, as shown in FIGS. 4A and 4B. The laminated bamboo body 6 is made by building up in layers, as shown in FIG. 3. The top layer is composed of a predetermined number of the bamboo plates 4, which are arranged side by side such that the inner portion " a " of each bamboo plate 4 faces downward, and that the outer portion " b " of each bamboo plate 4 faces upward. The second layer, which is next to the top layer, is composed of a predetermined number of the bamboo plates 4', which are arranged side by side such that the outer portion " b' " of each bamboo plate 4' is superimposed by the inner portion " a " of the bamboo plate 4 of the top layer. As a result, the structural strength of the toilet seat lid 10 or the toilet seat 20 is greatly enhanced, thanks to the laminated bamboo body 6.
The laminated bamboo body 6 of the present invention is formed by another method which is illustrated in FIG. 7. The laminated bamboo body 6 is formed of a predetermined number of the bamboo plates 4, which are stacked together such that the inner portion " a of one bamboo plate 4 is alternately arranged with the outer portion b' " of another bamboo plate 4. The laminated bamboo body 6 has a thickness 6 h " corresponding to the width of the toilet seat lid 40 or the toilet seat 50. A blank 7 is formed by -ctting the laminated bamboo body 6 along the longitudinal direction of the laminated bamboo body 6. The blank 7 has a thickness W which is corresponding to the thickness W of the toilet seat lid 40 or the toilet seat 50. In light of the toilet seat lid 40 and the toilet seat 50 being provided with the bamboo fibers which are arranged differently in density and orientation, the structural strength of the toilet seat lid 40 or the toilet seat 50 is greatly enhanced.
To sum up, the bamboo toilet seat lids 10, 40 and the bamboo toilet seats 20, 50 of the present invention have advantages, which are described hereinafter.
The bamboo toilet seat lids and the bamboo toilet seats of the present invention are structurally stronger than the conventional plastic toilet seat lids and toilet seats. As a result, the products of the present invention have a relatively longer service life span. In addition, the bamboo toilet seat lids 10, 40 and the bamboo toilet seats 20, 50 of the present invention have an excellent esthetic effect by virtue of the fact that they are provided with the bamboo fiber grains. Moreover, the bamboo toilet seat lids 10, 40 and the bamboo toilet seats 20, 50 of the present invention have a soothing effect in winter or summer.
The embodiments of the present invention described above are to be regarded in all respects as being merely illustrative and not restrictive. Accordingly, the present invention may be embodied in other specific forms without deviating from the spirit thereof. The present invention is therefore to be limited only by the scopes of the following appended claims.
