Abstract

236,028. Sharp, R. W. June 11, 1924. Jet nozzles; cleaning-devices.-Apparatus for use in sugarcane mills for spraying bagasse with water or syrup comprises an elongated pipe 10, connected with the liquid supply provided with a series of spraying nozzles 12, Figs. 1 and 4, having elongated outlet orifices each of which is provided with a cleaning blade 15 attached to a rod 14, the rods being capable of simultaneous opera tion by means of a bar 16 actuated through bellcranks 26 by handles 21. The nozzles are formed of tubes 12 extending into the pipe 10 having grooves 37 within which the blades 15 slide and provided with removable cup-shaped tips 32 provided with segmental slots 33 so arranged that the liquid from the tips coalesces to form a sheet. In addition to the spray nozzles, the pipe 10 may be provided with flushing valves 13, Fig. 7, secured to rods 40 passing through stuffing-boxes 41 and normally held closed by springs 43 but which may be opened when the bar 16 is depressed.
