Abstract
A mounting system for mounting louvres 40 to elongate support members 10. The mounting system comprises a plurality of clipping elements 20, a plurality of connecting members 30 for interconnecting the clipping elements 20 and the support members 10 in spaced apart relationship, and an elongate tensioning member 50 for urging one of the clipping elements 20 towards another to tension the mounting system. Each clipping element 20 has means 22 which receives one of the connecting members 30, and formations 28a and 28b to which louvres 40 are snap- fittably attachable.
Description
1, 1 2357110 MOUNTING SYSTEM This invention relates to a mounting system
for mounting louvres to elongate support members.
According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a mounting system for mounting louvres to elongate support members, the mounting system comprising a plurality of clipping elements, a plurality of connecting members for interconnecting the clipping elements and the support members in spaced apart relationship, and means for urging one of the clipping elements towards another to tension the mounting system, each clipping element having receiving means which receives one of the connecting members, and mounting means to which louvres can be snap-fittably attached.
Preferably, each of the clipping elements has a body portion, and the mounting means of the clipping elements comprises formations on the body portion for snap-fittably receiving the louvres. In this case, each clipping element may have an interengagement aperture formed in the body portion, and the urging means may comprise an elongate tensioning member interengaging at least two of the clipping elements through the interengagement apertures of the clipping elements.
Advantageously, the elongate tensioning member and the connecting members may be threaded members.
According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a mounting system in accordance with the first aspect of the invention in combination with a plurality of louvres each formed of two identical parts snap-fittably engageable with two or more clipping elements.
Preferably, the louvres in use are supported by the mounting system so as to be spaced apart from the elongate support members.
It is therefore possible to provide a mounting system which can be put under tension, while allowing expansion and contraction of the louvres supported by the mounting system.
The invention will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of part of one embodiment of a mounting system according to the first aspect of the present invention, Figure 2 is a sectioned front-elevational view of the mounting system shown in Figure 1, and Figure 3 is a sectioned side-elevational view of a clipping element of the mounting system shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown therein an elongate support 1 member 10, formed from extruded aluminium, which can be attached to a building in any convenient way. It may also be formed as an integral part of a curtain walling mullion or as part of a glazing bar.
The mounting system comprises a plurality of clipping elements 20, also formed from extruded aluminium, and a plurality of connecting members 30. Each of the connecting members 30 is a threaded, typically stainless steel, bar insertable and adjustably retainable in an opening in the elongate support member 10 by a nut and washer combination 3 1. The free end of the connecting member 30 is adjustably retainable by another nut and washer combination 31 in one of two apertures 22 formed in a body portion 24 of each of the clipping elements 20. The clipping elements 20 and the support members 10 are thus connectable in spaced apart relationship by way of the connecting members 30.
Each clipping element 20 has an interengaging aperture 26 provided in the body portion 24, and mounting means in the form of a first pair of formations 28a integral with and spaced apart along a first surface 24a of the body portion 24 and a second pair of formations 28b integral with and spaced apart along a second surface 24b of the body portion 24. The first and second surfaces 24a and 24b of the body portion 24 are opposite each other, and the first and second pairs of formations 28a and 28b are each able to snap-fittably support a solar shading louvre 40. The formations 28a and 28b are so provided on the body portion 24 that a relative diametrically inverse orientation exists therebetween.
Urging means in the form of an elongate tensioning member 50 is provided for urging one of the clipping elements 20 towards another such that the mounting system can be tensioned. The tensioning member 50 is a threaded, typically stainless steel, bar adjustably retainable by a nut and washer combination 51 in the interengaging apertures 26 of two opposing clipping elements 20 affixed to support members 10 through corresponding connecting members 20.
Each of the louvres 40, formed from extruded aluminium, comprises formations 42 and 44 provided on an inner surface thereof which are snapfittably engageable with the formations 28a and 28b of the clipping elements 20.
The mounting system can be put under tension due to the tensioning member 50. The louvres 40 can thus be easily snap-fittably attached to the rigidly held clipping elements 20 and supported by the mounting system. The spaced apart relationship between the clipping elements 20 and the support members 10 provides for an expansion gap between the ends of the louvres 40 in use and the support members 10.
More than two clipping elements 20 can be disposed on the tensioning member 50 through the interengaging aperture 26 in the body portion 24. This allows for an increase in length of louvre 40 to be utilised while maintaining adequate support thereof.
The embodiment described above is given by way of example only and various modifications will be apparent to persons skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention.
