Abstract

The aromatic pet pendant comprises a hollow body with a welded clasp for attachment to a collar worn by a pet animal. The pendant may be opened to allow insertion of a strip impregnated with scent. In use the pendant is closed and scent is emitted via holes in the body. The scents are natural plant extracts used in aromatherapy, chosen for insecticidal/bactericidal properties and will protect the animal against insects, e.g. fleas, and bacteria. The scents are chosen to be harmless to the animal. The pendant is preferably made from sterling silver or gold. Name, address and telephone information may be engraved on the rear of the pendant.

2353951 AROMATIC PET PENDANT The invention relates to a range of aromatic

fragrances specifically formulated for cats and dogs to be combined with a pendant, which attaches to the collar of a cat or dog. The aromas are a combination of 100% natural plant extracts, which are safe, non-chemical and non-evasive to pets. There are no harmful effects.

Every scent has been carefully researched and blended to promote complete contentment within pets, as well as naturally protecting and defending pets against fleas, bacteria and insects. The many other qualities of the plant extracts will also greatly benefit pets in promoting general well being.

The pendant is uniquely designed and is attached to the collar of a cat or dog via a clasp. The pendant opens at the side (middle or top depending on the individual design) allowing for a small strip scented by a dropper to be securely placed within the pendant. Once closed a pleasant aroma will gradually be diffused via the tiny holes at the back or front of the pendant (depending on each individual design)..

The stylish pendant acts as a natural alternative to other insect and flea repellents currently on the market, which are applied directly onto pet's fur. The pendants are designed to avoid intoxication, which can be caused by products, when swallowed by pets cleaning themselves. The invention is thus a favorable and alternative technique for the safety of cats and dogs.

Current manufactured pet products make use of various essential oils on both cats and dogs. Since cats are very sensitive though they do not appreciate having essential oils directly applied onto their fur. Many pet aromatherapy products contain eucalyptus, peppermint, spearmint or T- Tree because of their antibacterial and insecticide properties. The invention does not propose to make use of such oils due to the fact that cats and dogs do not appreciate the strong aroma. T-Tree is also known to occasionally cause convulsions in animals and eucalyptus stems and leaves are toxic to dogs Cats are not generally fond of strong mints though they love catnip and catmint, which are mint relations. Dogs can obtain minimal toxicity from Catnip and for these reasons all mint plant extracts have been avoided unlike many other pet products. The range has therefore been selected and researched with careful attention to detail to ensure complete safety.

When creating the invention the primary concern was to ensure that all of the ingrdients used were 100% natural, safe and beneficial to pets. Research revealed that certain p ant extracts should not be used on cats and dogs. Based on research information all other harmful or questionable plant extracts were avoided. The plant extracts that were safe were also thoroughly scanned to ensure complete suitability. Plant extracts, which were thought to propose any potentially adverse reactions on pets, were also not used..

IL The invention as well as being safe and natural is also a convenient way for pet owners to scent and care for their pets without the trauma of using topical products which pets dislike. Many pets and their owners are sensitive or allergic to chemical products such as pet repellents, which can also be damaging to the immune system and can lead to skin problems, metabolic disorders and a general lack of good health. A suitable essential oil can often replace the damaging chemical agent, but although allergies to suitable essential oils rarely exist, too much direct exposure to the pets using repellents, shampoos, conditioners, etc., can still be bothersome. The approach has not only provided beautifully designed pendants for complete safety but also combines this with unique blends, which cause no adverse reactions. Pet owners will therefore appreciate the priority placed in care and safety for pets.

The image of the products is to be elite and reflect style combined with quality. The aromatherapy scents will be blended by professional blenders using reputable oils, who will also bottle and label the aromas in I Oml droppers. The droppers will be packaged into small attractive boxes. The scent strips are to be sold in small packets.

Claims (1)

1. Chamomile has a fruity, apple-like fragrance and is cultivated in Germany,

   France and Morocco. Chamomile grows to about 12 inches high with white flowers, yellow centre and slightly farry leaves. Chamomile is a very soothing oil easing anxiety, tension, anger and far. Promotes relaxation, gives patience, peace and allays worries. Clams the mind and often helpful with insomnia. Blends well with Jasmine, Lavender, Palmarosa, Patchouli and Rose.

   Citronella has a slightly sweet and lemony aroma and grows mainly in Sri Lanka and Java though it is also found in Burma, Madagascar and Guatemala. The plant reaches to about three feet and has long slender leaves, which flower. Its most useful quality appears to be as an insect repellent so perhaps best employed in sprays and diffusers to keep pests away in hot weather. Probably most useful in ridding fleas from cats and dogs as well. C itronella also helps clear the mind and balances the nervous system. Its antiseptic properties are excellent in a diffuser. Blends well with Lavender.

   Grapefruit has a sweet, sharp and refreshing aroma. It derives from a glossy leaved tree with white flowers and yellow fruits. The oil glands are embedded deep within the peel. Much of the oil is obtained from Israel, Brazil and the USA. Grapefruit has an overall uPlifting and reviving affect. It appears to have a soothing effect on the body. Blends well with Chamomile, Citronella, Jasmine, Lavender, Palmarosa, Rose and Rosewood.

   Iinmortelle has a strongly woody scent with a hint of spice. It is a wild growing plant. It has dark yellow flowers and silver-green pepper scented leaves, the stem reaching to about two feet. It appears principally in Italy, France and Yugoslavia. Immortelle is good for the energy channels running through the body and boosts the immune system keeping allergies and infections at bay. Blends well with Chamomile, Lavender, Rose and Rosewood.

   Jasmine has a sweet, flowery and exotic aroma. The delicate white flowers of the tree are p cked at night when the aroma is most intense. Jasmine grows to about twenty feet and originates from Iran and northern India. Now grown in Algeria, Morocco and Egypt and Italy as well as France. Jasmine is calming to the nerves and warming to the emotions producing positive feelings of confidence. It restores energy and generally revitalizes. Blends well with Immortelle, Melissa, Palmarosa, Rose and Rosewood.

   Juniper has a clear, refreshing and slightly woody aroma. It is an evergreen shrub e growing to about six feet. It is found in many parts of the world. It has a reddish with needle like leaves supporting small yellow flowers with blue/black berries. The oil is obtained from Hungary, France, Italy, Yugoslavia and Canada. Juniper clears, stimulates and strengthens the nerves. It purifies the atmosphere and is very effective as an antiseptic. It has an ability to throw off poisons by purifying the blood thus making it tD valuable where disease-carrying insects abound. Blends well with Grapefruit, Lemongrass and Melissa.

   Lavender aroma is floral, light and clear with woody undertones. Lavender grows in the Mediterranean and is also extensively cultivated in England, France and Yugoslavia. It grows perched on long stems with tiny purple flowers covered with star shaped hairs and the narrow leaves are grey/green. Lavender has a balancing action on the nervous system and is beneficial to the respiratory system. Lavender is very soothing and calming and is renowned as an insecticide so keeps moths and insects at bay. It also cleanses dog bites and is purifying to the air. Blends well with Chamomile, Jasmine, Citronella and Thyme.

   Lemongrass has a strong, sweet and lemony aroma. This rather sharp yet lovely essential oil is distilled from two species of cultivated fresh grass. Originally from India but also grow in other tropical areas. Lemongrass is stimulating, reviving and energizing. A revitalizing action makes it a good tonic for the body. Its strong antiseptic action prevents the spread of contagious disease. Useful for keeping insects away and ridding animals of pests and fleas. Its deodorant action keeps them smelling nice too. Blends well with Jasmine, Lavender, Niaouli, and Palmarosa.

   Melissa has an aroma, which is sweet and lemon-like with floral undertones. It is a Mediterranean plant with France producing most of the oil. Melissa grows to about two feet and has small, slightly hairy, wrinkled, serrated leaves. Its properties make it effective as an insect repellent. It also has a calming yet uplifting effect on the emotions. Blends well with Chamomile, Jasmine, Juniper, Lavender and Rose.

   Niaouli has a slightly sweet, clear and penetrating aroma. Niaouli is a large tree, which grows abundantly in Australia. Its bushy foliage and yellow flowers are also a familiar sight in New Caledonia a South Sea Island. It appears that the falling leaves cover the ground and act like a strong disinfectant. Niaouli is generally stimulating and reviving, clears the head and may aid concentration. It helps to fight infection and is useful for wounds. Keeps insects away due to it antiseptic properties. Blends well with Juniper, Lavender.

   Parsley has a somewhat herby with spicy undertone aroma. Parsley is originally from the Mediterranean region but now grows abundantly in most countries. The stems reach to about two feet. Parsley is useful as a calmative and for insect bites as it relieves the pain and keeps head lice away from hair. Blends well with Lavender.

   Palmarosa has a sweet, floral slightly dry with a hint of rose aroma. It is distilled -from a spreading wild grass, which is harvested before the flowers appear. Palmarosa is, originally from India but also obtained from Comorels Islands and Mada 'gascar. If% a calming yet uplifting effect on the emotions. Also said to be able to refresh and clarify the mind. It is thought to be effective in cases of fever by reducing temperature thus its antiviral action since bacteria is weakened. Blends well with Citronella, Jasmine, Lavender, Melissa, Rose, Rosewood and Violet.

   F',ose has a deep sweet, flowery and exquisite aroma. Rose is a favourite flower of man countries but mainly obtained from Morocco, Turkey and France. Rose has a soothing effect on the emotions. It lifts the heart and eases nervous tension and stress. Rose has a soothing action on the emotions and also acts as a bactericide. Blends well with Chamomile, Jasmine, Lavender and Palmarosa.

   F'Losewood has a sweet, woody, floral and slightly spicy aroma. This beautiful oil is distilled from the heartwood of an evergreen tree found in the tropical forests of Brazil. It grows to almost one hundred and twenty feet and has yellow flowers. Rosewood s-'abilizes the central nervous system and could therefore have an overall balancing effect. 11. gives an uplifting and enI ' ivening effect. Has a positive deodorizing action, which helps the body to cope with excess heat and moisture. Seems to be valuable as an insect repellent. Blends well with Palmarosa and Rose.

   Violet has a sweet, dry and somewhat hay-like aroma. A great deal of essential oil comes from France and Egypt. The plant favours damp woodlands. It has stalks and heart shaped dark green leaves with delicate blue/violet flowers. Has a soothing effect and banishes feelings of anger and anxiety. Useful also for its antiseptic properties. Blends well with Citronella, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Lavender, and Rose.

   Tagetes has a sweet, fruity yet almost citrus-like aroma. Tagetes is now mainly grown in France. The deeply divided feathery leaves surround small camation-like bright orange flowers. Its well-known antimicrobe action is valuable for keeping disease-carrying mosquitoes and flies at bay, and possibly helping to keep check on infected bites. Helps to sharpen the senses generally. Blends well with Chamomile and Lavender.

   Thyme has a sweet and strongly herbal fragrance. Thyme is cultivated in Great Brain, America and France. The stems reach to about eight inches bearing small elliptical greenish flowers. Beneficial to the immune system and helps fight disease. Also useful as an insecticide. Blends well with Chamomile, Juniper, Niaouli and Melissa.

   14 CLAIMS 1. The aromatic pet pendant has features as outlined in figure 1, figure 2, figure 3, figure 4 and figure 5, which show various positions of the invention.

   2. The aromatic pet pendant is hollow to be lightweight.

   3. The aromatic pet pendant will also be available in other designs as outlined in the original description, but the basic functions as outlined in figures 1 to 5 will remain the same.

   4. The aromatic pet pendant will attach to the collar of a cat or dog via a welded clasp attached to the top of the pendant as indicated in figure 1.

   5. The aromatic pet pendant is to be made of sterling silver or gold as outlined in figure 1.

   6. The aromatic pet pendant is held together via a joint, which holds the back and front part of the pendant together as in figure 3.

   7. The aromatic pet pendant opens at the side via a tiny pop up button when pressed as indicated in figure 2.

   8. The aromatic pet pendant can be completely opened in half as indicated in figure 5.

   9. The aromatic pet pendant once opened allows for a scented strip to be securely placed within the pendant as in figure 5. The pendant closes when firmly pushed down.

   10. The aromatic pet pendant strip, which is placed into the pendant as in figure 5, will be scented via a dropper containing specifically blended safe plant extracts. There will be various scents.

   11. The aromatic pet pendant strip, which is placed within the pendant as in figure 5, contains natural plant extracts, which have been selected for their natural inbuilt repellents against fleas, insects and bacteria. These natural property ingredients will protect pets. The natural plant aromas also release a beautiful scent, which is both pleasing and highly beneficial for pets as they promote general well being.

   12. The aromatic pet pendant strip placed within the pendant as outlined in figure 5 will gradually releases the aromas through the small holes as indicated in figure 1.

   13. The aromatic pet pendant allows for the name, address and telephone number of the pet and owner to be engraved at the back as indicated in figure 4.

   14. The aromatic pet pendant as indicated in figures 1 to 5 is completely safe, natural, non-chemical and non-toxic to cats and dogs. Every care has been taken to promote complete contentment and comfort for pets.
