Abstract

A light alloy telescopic rod 1,8 has a rubber protected hook 2 at each end enabling it to fit round a grab handle in a caravan. The rod is locked by a thumb screw mechanism 5,6,7. Rubber spacers stabilise the rod against the side of the caravan. A conventional clothes drying frame 10 can be hung from the rod.

2353702 SPECIFICATI1 CLOTHES DRYER SUPPORT FOR CARAVANS
Description
This invention relates to a telescopic clothes dryer support for caravans/motorhomes. Most caravan sites ban clothes lines and therefore another method of drying clothing is required.
Clothes dryers do exist but they are designed to hang from caravan/motorhome windows. The dryer has to rest on rubber window seals which can cause damage and the window has to be left open posing security problems.
The present invention uses the "grab handles" on the caravan/motorhome to provide mounting points for a telescopic bar from which hangs a dryer. This telescopic bar is made of light alloy and adjusted by means of a thumb screw mounted on a reinforced plate on one bar which locks onto the sliding inside bar. At each end of the telescopic bar is a rubber protected hook which hooks onto the caravan/motorhome grab handle. This hook is free swivelling to allow the bar to attach to horizontal, vertical and angled grab handles. Existing window type dryers (garment drying frames) can be used on the invention or a tailor made garment drying frame can be used. The telescopic bar incorporates two rubber protected lugs which provide stability to the telescopic bar against the side of the caravan/motorhome.
1 A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1 shows the design of the wider tube of the telescopic bar including thumb screw arrangement and stabiliser lug attached to the grab handle.
Figure 2 shows the narrow tube of the telescopic bar (including the stabiliser lug) attached to a caravan grab handle.
Figure 3 shows the complete arrangement with the garment drying frame in place.
Referring to the drawing the telescopic bar comprises one light alloy tube (1) C. -.
which slides into a second light alloy tube (8).
The end of each tube is shaped into a straight "U" bend (2) to fasten onto each 0 grab handle (4). The end of the "U" extends only to a minimum distance so as not to foul flush fitting grab handles. On the larger diameter tube is attached a small reinforcing plates (7), threaded to take a thumb screw (5), with a thumb screw retaining mechanism (6).
Welded to each tube is a rubber protected lug to stabilise the telescopic bar against the caravan/motorhome side (3). The end of the smaller tube(l) is fitted with a protective plastic grommet (9).

1 A telescopic light alloy bar to hook onto caravan/motor home grab handles to provide a support to a garment drying frame.
2. A telescopic light alloy bar as claimed in Claim 1 which can utilise existing garment drying frames.
