Abstract
A dummy which has a hollow detachable upper section 1 by use of a groove 3 and which is imprinted with demarcation lines 4 for ease of measurement and has attached a holding ring 5. The lower section 2 with solid plastic base 6 incorporating a filtration hole 7 has attached a hollow rubber teat 10 imprinted with demarcation lines 8 for ease of measurement and at its base having a hole 9 in which the child ingests the medicine.
Description
k 2353223 Medical Dummy This invention relates to a pacifier which
comprises of a hollow rubber teat attached to a solid plastic top with a ring handle. The air in the teat is usually airtight which makes the teat fairly solid enabling the child to have a natural sucking motion.
When a child is ill they are normally in a depressed state, in pain, have headaches, runny noses, etc. When in this state parents have the dubious task of providing medication to the child, which if used by the conventional methods such as syringe or plastic spoon is often refused. Pacifiers, although used to comfort and soothe the child, can offer slight reassurance in these circumstances but are normally refused after a short time by the child. Therefore pacifiers suffer from the disadvantage of a very limited use and offers no advantage when confronted by a sick child.
An object of this invention is to provide the child with a device which they are comfortable with for a short time and which contains the necessary medication they need to make a recovery.
Accordingly, this invention provides a hollow detachable upper measuring section made of a hardened plastic, with its own demarcation lines to assist in measurement of liquid medication, which separates from the hardened plastic lower section which encompasses the hollow teat. The teat itself being made of a soft latex type rubber with a small hole at the base to enable the medication to pass through. The teat being imprinted with demarcation lines to assist in measuring.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE 1 Showing the hollow detachable upper measuring section, the holding ring, medicine filtration hole, lower section and the hollow teat with hole.
As shown in Figure 1 the upper measuring section 1 becomes detached by the use of a groove 3 so as to be able to screw the section on/off. This section is itself hollow and marked by demarcation lines 4 to assist in measuring the liquid medication when poured into the section.
There is a holding ring 5, made of hardened plastic, which assists in the removal of the upper measuring section and used in the carrying of the invention. This is attached to the upper measuring section by a rotating socket on either side to enable the ring to be moved.
The lower section 2 being made of hardened plastic 6, which is also machined groove, is attached to the rubber teat 10 and incorporates a filtration hole 7 in which to pour the liquid.
The medication is then poured from the measuring section into the hollow latex teat by the use of the filtration hole 7. Again the teat is marked with demarcation lines to assist in measuring the medication 8.
The measuring section is then screwed back in place and the dummy presented to the child. The child, with a natural sucking motion, will then take in the medication through the hole at the base of the teat 9, thus consuming the medication in a natural manner.
