Abstract
Toilet tissue or any other water soluble absorbent material produced as a bag or any other similar form, eg mitt, pouch or boxing style glove, in which the user can insert one or more fingers through an opening easily identifiable by a serrated fold 11 and defined by a short front face 15 and a longer back face. The top leading edge 10 may be folded once so as to offer a four ply thickness or in addition centrally refolded to offer a seven ply thickness. The edges of the bag (12, 13, fig. 3) are bonded by an adhesive gum and may incorporate gussets. The top of the bag may be indented with a 'V' shape. One or more plies may be used. The product may be produced in roll form or as separate sheets in a box or shrink wrap packaging.
Description
2351981 BATHROOM PAPER This invention relates to toilet paper or any other
soft disposable absorbent material.
The age-old way of wiping faeces or excrement from the anus or posterior has.the disadvantage of having to tear several sheets from the traditional toilet roll or pack and frequently soiling the fingers either by breaching the paper in the cleaning act or through the inadequate protection afforded by the relatively small sheets.
It would be desirable to provide a more hygienic, safer and more comfortable way of cleaning the posterior.
Accordingly this invention, using toilet tissue or similar material of one or more ply construction, is designed and produced in bag form giving all-round protection to the fingers throughout the cleaning process. While the bag can be produced in different shapes and in a size large enough to encompass the human hand, a specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
2 Figure 1 shows, approximately to scale, the, 15, front of the bag and its four thickness, 10, leading edge.
Figure 2 shows, approximatelY'to scale, the back of the bag and a vertical gummed seam which can appear anywhere on the bag, sealing the bag, 17.
Figure 3 shows, approximately to scale, the front of the bag,15., gummed down both side edges, 12, 13.
Referring to the drawing the bag comprises, at the front, a 2cms fold at the top leading edge, 10 giving a four ply fold leading into the posterior. The fold is, 11, serrated to indicate to the user that it is the leading edge. A non serrated straight line can also be employed. The front of the bag, 15, is approximately 1 centimetre shorter than the back of the bag. The differing lengths are designed for ease of entry of the fingers into the bag. The leading edge in the example is 12,4 cms; long.
Figure 4 shows, approximately to scale, a second embodiment of the design where the fold at the top, leading edge is a fold of 3 or more centimetres in length before being centrally refolded, 10, giving a seven thickness fold leading into the posterior with- a four thickness 1 cms fold on one side of the leading edge 3 and a three thickness fold on the other side of the leading edge, also of 1 cms.
The size of the bag, as given in the example, allows the fingers of a large hand to be protected and, taking a common toilet roll of 280 sheets, each measuring 12.4 x 11.2 cms, ensures out of this standard four roll pack, the equivalent of 3 rolls would be required to produce 303 bags, leaving the fourth standard toilet roll to contribute to any possible increase in manufacturing cost that might be incurred. Technology for the mass production of varying size and shapes of bags is well established although some adjustment may be required to produce bags made of tissue or similar material.
Production of orthodox toilet rolls generally entails the last, outer sheet and the fourth sheet in from the last being gummed and technology exists in the U.K. to provide a safe effective gum for the mass, high speed production of bags as described.
The product is feasible both in manufacturing and marketing terms.
