Abstract

A wooden post protector comprising of a sleeve 1 manufactured to the cross section of the post to be protected and extending from the base of the post to an adequate height above ground level to prevent moisture ingress. The sleeve has protruding lugs 2 around the sides to assist in retaining the sleeve in the ground during removal of the post.

Description

2351743 This invention relates to wooden posts of any uniform cross
section which are set into the ground.
Such posts suffer from failure at or close to ground level due to rotting caused by moisture, whilst the rest of the post remains in good condition.
The object of this invention is to prolong the life of such posts by providing protection at the identified weak point and to allow easy post replacement without additional ground work.
The protection is provided by a waterproof sleeve manufactured in a plastic material to the same cross section as the post. The sleeve should extend from the base of the post to an adequate height above ground level, say 3 - 4 inches to prevent water seepage. The sleeve should also be a'snug' fit on the post to prevent moisture ingress.
The sleeve has protruding lugs on each side to assist retention of the sleeve in the ground during post removal. This allows for the replacement of broken posts without the need to disturb the existing ground works.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE 1 shows the sleeve applied to a square cross section post.
As shown in FIGURE 1 the protector consists of a sleeve 1 extending from the base of the post 5 to 3 or 4 inches 3 above ground level 4.
The side lugs 2 in FIGURE 1 assist the retention of the sleeve in the ground during post removal.

Claims (3)

1. A wooden post protector comprising of a sleeve matching the cross section of the post to be protected.
2. As above with side lugs to aid sleeve retention in the ground when the post is removed.
3. A post protector substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
