Abstract
The vehicle wing-mirror protector provides a safe and secure sleeve which protects the mirror against impact of passing vehicles. It can be secured on the parked car by means of a tag 2 between the door and door-frame and can be constructed of a waterproof, luminous material. It can also be padded 3 at the closed end for extra protection. An elastic strip within the material at the open end or a drawstring 1 closes the open end of the sleeve around the mirror. The protector can be detached from the mirror by releasing the tag from the door-frame when the door is opened and by loosening the drawstring and sliding the sleeve off the mirror.
Description
VEHICLE WING-MIRROR PROTECTOR
The invention relates to a protector for all vehicle wing-mirrors.
Many vehicies parked in narrow roads have their wing-mirror damaged by passing cars. The cost of replacement is usually part of the insurance deductible amount and is invariably borne by the motorist.
The features of the invention comprise a waterproof sleeve as seen in the figure: closed at one end and open at the other, which slides over the wingmirror ; the open end nearest the vehicle is closed by means of either a drawstring or an elasticated section within the sleeve 1.
Attache to the open end and emanating from the back of the sleeve is a tag 2 which the driver secures in the door before closing. The door then closes on the tag securing the sleeve in place against the door-frame to avoid theft.
The closed end of the sleeve is padded slightly 3 so as to absorb any impact of a passing car if it should hit the mirror.
The protector is made of a waterproof material and is luminous so as to reflect the headlights of any approaching vehicle at night.
When the driver returns to the vehicle and opens the door ; the tag will immediately become loose and the protector can then be slid off the mirror with ease and stored within the vehicle.
Variations on the invention may be a protector with no padding at the closed end and/or no tag 2 to secure the protector to the vehicle.
Dimensions of the protector are as follows- Length approximately 20 cm
Width approximately 15 cm Length of the tag approximately 15 cm
Width of the tag approximately 2 cm
The edge of the closed end can either be rounded or right-angled.
The tag can be made with a thicker strip 4 on the end so it would be impossible to slide out of the gap between door and door-frame.
