Abstract
This process consists of three main stages:- <DL TSIZE=8> <DT>Stage 1<DD>Cooling <DT>Stage 2<DD>Crushing <DT>Stage 3<DD>Separation </DL> <H1>Stage 1</H1> The tyre is exposed to a rapid cooling agent (liquid nitrogen or some other substance capable of producing a similar effect) in order to render the tyre brittle. <H1>Stage 2</H1> The tyre is then crushed or impacted to break it down to a granular/powder form. <H1>Stage 3</H1> The residue from Stage 2 is exposed to a magnetic field in order to separate the bulk of the steel granules from the rubber granules.

VEHICLE TYRE RECYCLING PROCESS
SPECIFICATION
This process brings together a number of functions in order to provide a means of separating the major basic materials used in the manufacture of vehicle tyres in order to make them more available for recycling.
Claims (1)
- CLAIMS By bringing together known elements of technology in a new sequence, in order to provide a method, which enables the separation of the major basic materials used in the manufacturing of vehicle tyres.Note 1: The sequence outlined in the abstract is crucial to the success of the process: a. The cooling of the tyre to the point where it is brittle enough to allow the structural integrity of the tyre to be destroyed is essential. b. The crushing to a granulated/powder form is now possible and again essential. c. The primary separation using a magnetic field is now possible, but only after the first two stages have been completed.Note 2: No attempt has been made to describe specific types of machinery/equipment needed in this process, because it is recognized that more than one type is already available capable of satisfying each of the required stages.
