Abstract
A fence comprises modular plastics hollow panels which have a concave top with holes for the ingress of rainwater, and overflow holes to control the depth of water within the panel, whereby to give it weight and stability. A modified panel (sheet 2/2 not shown) has a pivot at each end so that in still conditions the weight of water self - centres the panel, but in high winds the panel can pivot to allow the wind to blow between adjacent panels.
Description
MODULAR PLASTIC FENCING
This invention relates to a modular plastic fence panel system.
Traditional wooden fence systems have been in use for many yesrs. The prime objective of a panel fence is to partition plots of land from ones neighbours. The fence panels vary in size and in manufactured styles but al invariably have problems with nai ! s mating ; wood rotting, discolouration, and failing under wind pressure. The prime objective of the new invention must therefore satisfy the partitioning requirement and where possible overcome the detracting qualities found in wooden partitioning.
Invention Description
The plastic fencing system comprises or two types of panels. Each panel type can be used to complete a fence panel or they can be mixed together depending upon the specific requirements of the user
Type 1 Panel
The first type of panel is a fixed panel, which slots in between a standard concrete or wooden post (Wooden post must use fixing plates), The panel is made of hollow plastic section, wood grained on the show surfaces and coloured. The top edge of the panel has a concave form with several holes within the base of the concave form. The holes act as drains into which rain will fall and run inside the panel. The edges of the panel (Left and right) will have drainage hole approximately 50mm from its base allowing water to run out of the panel. This panel is as static panel and uses the weight of water retained within its form to secure the panel in place during windy weather.
Type 2 Panel
The second type of panel uses exactly the same type of water fill system but also incorporates a tilting system. In this type of dynamic fencing the weight of water acts as a seIf leveling system for the panel.
During normal conditions or light winds the panel will not move as the force required to overcome the weight of water would not be sufficient. During high or blustery conditions the fence panel would open allowing the wind to pass through it thus reducing the surface area presented to the wind.
Panel Mix
The two types of panels could be used in conjunction with each other to present a fence which for instant had the lower section 1xed (To stop dogs or children) whilst the top section moves in windy weather.
The schematic headed Static Fence Panel shows the panels slotted into a fence post
View A shows the post and panel together.
Section A-A shows the cross sectional view of the fence panel. The panel is hollow, and the top of the panel is concave to collect rainwater and channel it into the body of the pane ! The Section A-A shows the overflow hole, which will allow the water to disperse after reaching a certain lebel.
The second schematic headed Dynamic Fence Panel shows the moving panels.
View B shows the pivot point set into a fence post.
Section B-B shows the panels opening due to wind pressure and the fill of rainwater inside each panel.
As already described the hollow section plastic panels can fill with water to act as a self-leveling system.
The Static panels will be designed to allow the Dynamic panels to slot together. In section B-B (Dynamic
Fence Panel) the end caps (Shown directly below view B) have castelations in their base and corresponding depressions in their top sections to aiiow them to lock together. This locking system would be replicated in
the Static panels giving a consistent build system.
Claims (6)
- Claims The fence system will be made of hollow section plastic allowing rain (Other) water to access via ingress holes in the panel's upper wrface.2 Egress of unwanted water will be via an overflow hole (s) at the extremity of each panel.3. The system will be modular in make up, both Dynamic and Static can be used individually or in any combination.4. The system (Dynamic) uses a pivot system in each panel to act as a self-leveling system when filled with water.5 The system is designed to open during high winds to ease pressure on the fence system.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. The fence system will be made of hollow plastic section, having holes in the top surface to permit access of rain or other water into the panel.
- 2. A panel as in claim 1, having an overflow hole or holes to allow egress of excess water.
- 3. A fence comprising a plurality of modular panels according to claim 1 or daim 2.
- 4. A fence wherein a panel as in claim 1 or claim 2 is pivoted at its ends, so as to be self levelling when filled with water.
- 5. A fence as in claim 4 wherein the pivots are arranged to allow the fence to open by pivoting during high winds to ease pressure on the fence.
- 6. A fence panel, or a fence, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
