Abstract

A rucksack is formed from two separate compartments which are arranged vertically down each side of the spinal area of a wearer. This is stated to provide ventilation and encourage white tat cell metabolism. The compartments may be cylindrical and be joined by rigid lightweight tubes of aluminium, glass fibre or other composite materials. A mesh fabric container may be positioned on the outer part of the vertical compartments.

Description

DESCRIPTION This invention relates to a Rucksack.
Rucksacks are well known articles in the outdoor leisure, work and military fields. They are used by climbers, walkers, explorers, and the armed forces as a means of carrying materials and supplies.
Rucksacks are generally carried on the back of the wearer and the load is taken through the shoulder straps, waistband and the body of the rucksack or frame which is in contact with the back of the wearer.
A disadvantage of most rucksacks is that due to the thermal insulation of the rucksack and due to the prevention of air circulation, there is often a build-up of body heat and moisture in the back region of the wearer. Since the back region contains one of the highest concentrations of brown fat cells in the body the heating effect is exaggerated. The body's temperature regulatory system is also adversely affected. This can lead to loss of physical performance and increased fatigue.
According to the present invention there is provided a rucksack comprising a structure which is formed from two separate compartments which are arranged vertically down either side of the spinal area of the wearer. A free space between the compartments permits heat loss and evaporation of moisture from the wearer's back area.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described in which : The rucksack comprises two cylindrical compartments arranged vertically and joined using rigid, lightweight tubes formed from materials such as aluminium, glass-fibre or other composite materials.
The free space between the compartments may also be used to carry additional materials by the addition of a mesh fabric container positioned on the outer part of the vertical containers such that the heat loss and moisture evaporation properties of the rucksack are not impaire.

Claims (7)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A rucksack formed from two separate compartments arranged vertically down either side of the spinal area of the wearer.
  2. 2. A rucksack with reduced heat generation in the back region of the wearer.
  3. 3. A rucksack with improved ventilation in the back region of the wearer.
  4. 4. A rucksack with increased evaporation of moisture from the back region of the wearer.
  5. 5. A rucksack which permits increased physical performance in the wearer.
  6. 6. A rucksack which permits reduced fatigue in the wearer.
  7. 7. A rucksack which when wom in conjunction with appropriate clothing can permit cold stimulation of the brown fat cells in the spinal region and through this encourage white fat cell metabolism and resultant weight loss and improved body tone and appearance.
